Domas
As the title suggests, my game is constantly stuttering and freezing, for up to 10-12 seconds at a time. It doesn't happen when I first start playing, but starts occurring more frequently the longer I play (usually unplayable after about an hour). I do run some pretty heavy mods, but my rig should be more than enough to handle it. My system: Intel Core i7 950 @ 3.07GHz (quad core)4gb RAM (2 x 2GB DDR3)Radeon HD 5870 AMD GPUWin7 32bit I have also run BOSS and FNVEdit and came up with zero errors/incompatibilities. I should also mention that I've had Task Manager and GPU-Z running on a my second monitor in order to see what exactly is happening during these "Freezes". As far as I can tell, my system itself is running fine - CPU usage is never peaking out at 99% (rarely breaks over 90% anyway), and my Phys Memory is never more than 70%. Nor does my GPU ever use more than 70% usage while playing Fallout NV. I'm really at a loss as to why my game keep stuttering/freezing so much. Any help would be much appreciated. (Also, more random information that may or may not be useful): I play on Ultra High (or whatever) the game defaulted to when I installed it. GrindedStone
It's because you need to lower the settings. Set the in-game distance sliders to 1/4 or less, then run around. Also ultra settings enables full scene reflections an full detail reflections on water which is very bad an very wasteful. You can run 1/2 on the grass, object fade, an tree LOD fade. The rest of the sliders should be 4 clicks or so. I use 2 clicks on actors. Also try running the game with HDR-Bloom disabled, you'll have to adjust your brightness in the game but it runs better an you can use the color white more. Some players run full native resolution with low post processing others run lower than native resolution with high post processing. I would use whatever allows you to have smooth physics, animation, and travel. Not what is the highest detail. MyGoodEye
Also, disable your 2nd monitor in GRAPHICS OPTIONS or CATALYST or whatever. I've found that I can squeeze better performance from my system when doing so. - David
GrindedStone
You could try windowed mode too, an I've seen some folks using fake full screen windowed mode, no idea how they do it though. Audio is much more of a factor than we think, so you can also turn the master volume slider down as a way to either point the finger at or rule out audio issues as a cause. Domas
Thanks for all the input, I'll give it a shot when I get home today. Kind of a shame, just built this computer in Oct '10 (When FNV came out), and still can't run it at max settings. Ah well :P maybe I'll save up and buy myself a pair of Radeon HD 6970's. (That is, if this game even supports crossfire. I know they just released a patch a few weeks ago to allow Skyrim to do so)... Thanks again everyone :) EDIT: +Kudos. I did what both of you suggested and now it runs perfect! Edited January 24, 2012 by Domas

I did what both of you suggested and now it runs perfect! I was having a lot of problems with the game freezing and having to reboot. going to the graphics menu from the desktop icon (not using FOMM) I was able to disable most of the water and reflection options. That greatly improved my rate of freeze. Now it only does it a few times a night. I've had this problem with ATI cards in other games. Disabling reflections and water refrractions is usually the key. homeworlder1
It could help to get 64-bit windows too, and instead of going for 2 6970's you'll do with 2 6950 or 560Ti GTX'sProtip: Corsair Vengeance is teh l33t
