Mod group starting

on one hand, i'd absolutely love to join a "mod team." but on the other, i know it would be very difficult to find one that suited me. i'm a total perfectionist. i will spend an hour clutterising a damn table so it looks realistic and "lived in." while i don't have much experience with TES scripting yet, i have a ton of programming experience with both interpreted and compiled languages. and after studying a lot of preexisting scripts and the list of built-in functions and commands, i think i have a pretty good feel for its syntax, capabilities and limitations. i watch npcs use my scripts/packages a dozen times, each time trying to get them to screw up, before i'm satisfied with the result. i would not join a mod team until i was assured that every member of the team felt this very same way.

so what i'm trying to say, in the nicest possible way, is that if you expect to attract quality modders to your project, you need to bring something to the table, especially if you expect to be leading it. i'm not talking about a super-cool idea, because those are a dime a dozen. so until you do that, this seems more like a "i have a cool idea and want people to make it for me" kind of deal. i apologize in advance if this seems overly harsh. i'm just telling you how it seems to me, from the perspective of someone who is very interested in joining a mod team.

Hard to find that kind of group. I would check out Silgrad Tower or Tamriel Rebuilt teams, as they are the most professional and organized within the community. For example, i've heard rumors that Tamriel Rebuilt does not put up with screwing around on their forums, but rather want the posts to be serious about their content. This is what I've heard at least. There is also SilverRose Studios and also Spellhold Studios. Vagrant0 also has a team up as well. Other than those, the only ones you will find are smaller, individual based projects such as Saint Productions and the late TiMorrowind.

As for bringing something to the table, he's right. You need something to attract modders, even if it's just screenshots. Then I suggest doing a roadmap. For example, before I even started on my current project, Redux: Anvil, I put together a rough roadmap outlining where I wanted the mod to go.

Hard to find that kind of group.

which is unfortunate :( because i know there are a whole lot of quality modders working on this game, judging by the amount of amazing work on tesnexus. seems like there would be more groups around. i think the main problem is finding like-minded people and organizing the groups. if only nexus would add some kind of "mod recruitment" forum section!

ok, well I had plans for great things, after this im going to get a forums site up and stuff, umm well I was planing to have something to do with a tenth god and a negitive oblivion not fire but frost and the tenth god gave his "life" to save us long before you arrived in cryodill, the tenth god was erased from time because of the *name of the negitive deadra* who had saught out to destroy the logs and the nine holy books that discribed him and holy crap, the last of the tomes the great tome was lost and never found by them and thus a man *name to be chosen* finds the book in a ruined underground city, and he recreates the city, You start the quest by hearing a rumor about the people fleeing from *name of a cave* and have herd they are trying to reach the arcane university or you can go to the arcane university and talk to *name of an importent survivor* he says some crap about a bow and a dagger of the tenth god and how it can stop the comming of the negitive deadrea and some otehr poo about how the city lays deep in *name of the cave* and the tunnle there was blocked by an explosion of falling rocks only the crusader could possibly remove them (knights of the nine!). and some more craps and in the end it will be about saving the survivors of this udnerground from the negitive deadrea who had infected the people there with a zombie invasion and once they are gone and ridden making no threat they will destroy the great tome and all the holy relics and then rule the world and craps. well anyway I am good with modding if you care to know and I am able to mod with skill, I have less time due to school and I have many things in life that conflict with everything but I can be a great leader and stuff, I was basicly making a group (still thinking now going with the free modders movement) who could make mods as a team and share their mods with the others who would give advice and stuff

we will have a few big projects and we will have breaks after and during mod periods (well you can take breaks but the order goes in line and please don't be super lazy) and we will have votes about the consept being what you want to do next and ideas for it and stuff.

I g2g now so sorry about this and I will review the resumes as soon as I get the time. my heatic life will soon die down a bit and will have more time.

typed this in 4 minutes sorry for typos if any.

Most of the work is done by individual led groups. The Colored Rooms project is a perfect example. Others are done as a "you help me I help you" deal between a couple of modders. Modders such as AlienSlof does this alot. And then others are done solely individually; completely by themselves. Some examples are Simyaz and his quest mods.

So, with that being said, it is about finding like-minded people and organizing the groups. And a mod recruitment section would be nice.

I was planning to have something to do with a tenth god and a negative oblivion not fire but frost and the tenth god gave his "life" to save us long before you arrived in cyrodiil, the tenth god was erased from time because of the *name of the negative deadra* who had sought out to destroy the logs and the nine holy books that described him and holy crap, the last of the tomes the great tome was lost and never found by them and thus a man *name to be chosen* finds the book in a ruined underground city, and he recreates the city, You start the quest by hearing a rumor about the people fleeing from *name of a cave* and have heard they are trying to reach the arcane university or you can go to the arcane university and talk to *name of an important survivor* he says some crap about a bow and a dagger of the tenth god and how it can stop the coming of the negative deadra and some other poo about how the city lays deep in *name of the cave* and the tunnel there was blocked by an explosion of falling rocks only the crusader could possibly remove them (knights of the nine!). and some more craps and in the end it will be about saving the survivors of this underground from the negative deadra who had infected the people there with a zombie invasion and once they are gone and ridden making no threat they will destroy the great tome and all the holy relics and then rule the world.

Just to show you how much of a perfectionist I am, I corrected everyone of the spelling mistakes in that paragraph!

No offense or anything, but I'm not a big fan of that plot- it sounds complicated, and really doesn't fit in with lore. Plus, it's best with a new modding group to start not so complicated as that, so you learn everyone's abilities. Maybe we can try that later on, but for now maybe just a companion like Ruin, story-driven, y'know?

I was thinking maybe you find a shifty looking imperial leading an angry khajiit through the market district. He approaches you, and begs you to buy his slave, for a reasonable amount of cash. The slave refuses to talk other than wait and follow, but as you get to know him more, you reveal his story- how he was kidnapped as a child (not from elsweyr, outside bravil maybe?), and worked in the mines. The mine was attacked by bandits, who sold him to the imperial. When the mine was attacked he lost the map back to his old house which he'd been treasuring since he was taken, dreaming of escape. You find the map, and take him to his parents home- his mother is dead, but his dad remains. His dad, so pleased with his return, invites him to live in the house, but he says he must travel with you, as your loyal friend. His dad gives him all his old armor etc, so you know have a companion with awesome stuff. The house (after the dad dies) becomes yours, and you can live there.

Turned out more complicated than I thought it would be..... hmmm...

Well, there's my idea.

I'd love to join this group!

im working on something similar to that now. a sort of quest-based companion mod. i'd love to get deeper into the scripting aspect of things, but i seem to be spending most of my time landscaping, playtesting, relandscaping, playtesting, relandscaping, playtesting, adding 2 clutter objects, playtesting, etc... what i need is the artsy creative type who enjoys that sort of thing

I would like to point out to Darkwarrior that silverrose studios is dead as the team is not interested in modding oblivion anymore, if you check their forums you will see. They still post sometimes but do not mod. This happens alot, lack of interest. I do agree however that you check out silgrad tower and Tamriel Rebuilt like Darkwarrior pointed out, those two are organized VERY good, it has a VERY good system for their big projects which helps alot. And there are many great modders there, i know as i mod in the valenwood team at Silgrad Tower.
