How to take Fallout 4 screenshots to be viewed in virtual reality?

Here's a neat screenshot of Boston in Fallout 4.

When you have such a screenshot, you can just open it in your Google Cardboard app on your smartphone, and with an affordable VR set like this, you can look around, at it feels very much like you're there.

But how can one take such panorama screenshots in Fallout 4?

an excellent question, and it's great to see there are some FO4VR players on Nexus too.

there've only been a couple of similar threads yet emerge for FO4,

though it's awesome to see!

most of those reference to Scott Manley's approach.

which is fairly awesome.

indeed, 360 VR tours allow folks to see more of the locale.

it might even be how we achieve better reflective surfaces in-game.

Appreciated, montky. I think the producers of graphics cards will make something soon, so with GeForce NVIDIA I assume there'll be some handy way of taking panorama snapshots (perhaps through "Ansel", idk). But I need something before that.

This Scott Manley you write about, what has he done with regards to VR screenshots for FO4?

I have barely tried VR, but I think it's absolutely brilliant. It feels like you're actually there, whether it's New York Times filming shots fired in Syria or you're in some game.

Indeed, VR is like Ransom's virtual holodeck from ST:Voy.

Or, that scene from "Toys"...

Ah, you'll enjoy discovering Scott Manley of Youtube then -

and the VR Universe Sim, as well as stellar cartography etc.

Scott Manley wrote some different code that does different transforms to

certain kinds of lenses across several games.

several folks in his audience are also at T.W.i.T. and their side-panel on VR...

(this week in tech with leo laporte).

it may or may not be interoperable with FO4 and unity etc...

in order to use the code etc, all you need do is credit Scott Manley,

and there are several other projects stemming from that one.

I digress;

to FO4 and nex-ites who've asked similar questions;

you'll find the thread

"Mod or script to automate screenshot-taking to create a 360 scene" by bolmara to be of some use.

good luck in your holography,

and 360 vid or panoramic lens screencaps!

This code sounds just like what I am looking for! I have searched around for "Scott Manley code" and "Scott Manley screenshot" without finding anything. Do you have the name of the code, or any suggestions for keywords?

I see here that in some 4-5 months, we'd get access to Fallout 4 in HTC Vive. So looking forward to that.

@weiss412

yeah, that HTC Vive native support will be AWESOME

imagine, head-tracking IR in FO4! yeah!

https://www.youtube.com/user/szyzyg/videos

check out the 'how to 360 vid and how to make vids viewable in Oculus etc"

Mr Manley is also at ThisWeekInTech, and they also have some of the code you're looking for

It will chug on high-end stuff for those 4K+ visuals.

that's why native support will be so much more awesome.

Good luck Weiss412
