ScarabMonkey
As this is seemingly an exploration quest - try to go everywhere to find the gems... It would seem fitting to me for it to be the adventurers guild (Bard's College) that ran the Berenziah gems quest-line. I enjoy exploring for the sake it, but it is also nice to have these gems to look forward to! My character is not a thief so doesn't want to join the thieves guild, he has actually tried to kill the whole gang rather than joining them (unfortunately they are all essential/immortal). I wonder whether it would be feasible for someone to mod it so that the guy who gives this quest is actually a bard .... hmmm, maybe possible. NDrakkon
I'd love a mod which did this as well. The exploring nature of the quest does seem more in line with bards than thieves. I know some of the gems are in NPCs homes, but they're tagged as take not steal, so it's not technically thievery. Or failing a mod which changed it to a Bard's College quest, something which let's us get the quest from Vex without joining the Guild. Realistically we should be able to approach the Thieves Guild as a client rather than being forced to join for the quest, since we pick up the unusual gem ourselves and need to find an appraiser, not get sent by Vex to find the gems. Which gives me another thought. It would be interesting to have a mod that allows us to hire the Thieves or Companions for jobs if we've not joined them. I don't know how it would be done or if it would be feasible, but it would be interesting for immersion's sake if we could hire the companions to clear out caves or the Thieves to steal an item from an NPCs house, or be able to perform the Black Sacrament to send the Dark Brotherhood after someone. thesapien
Funny, I've never looked into what they were all about until just now and reading about it on the unofficial wikia. I was always too annoyed by everybody in Rifton to follow anything dealing with them. Even when doing the main quest, I just go straight to Esbern. Theives guild master? Want something stolen but don't want to do it yourself? Send another thief. Guild master of the Morag Tong/Dark Brotherhood and want someone dead? Send an assassin. Et cetera. ScarabMonkey
Yeah, if Vex could just give that quest regardless of your affiliation that would be cool - then only if you are a member would you get to see the finished product (and get the buff). Sending people to do things would be awesome; the implementation wasn't necessarily perfect, but I really enjoyed the party of adventurers that you could send to do things for you in Neverwinter Nights 2. Expanding the guilds would make an awesome DLC - more quests before becoming the guild master would also be good - especially those that need to be completed in clever ways, preferably requiring decent stats in relevant class-skills ;)
Lachdonin
I personally think the questline is perfectly related to the Theives Guild. Barenziah didn't have anything to do with Skyrim, and the Bards College is very Skyrim-centric in its material. However, the gems, and the crown, would be highly valuable to the right people, which puts it firmly in the grounds of the Theives Guild. Coupled with the fact that Vex is unlikely to inform some random wanderer of such a valuable find, i also don't think the ability to do it without being the Guild Member is warrented either.. That said, i do agree that the actual power as a Guild Leader is lackluster at best. Considering how poor the questlines are, its clear Beth didn't put much effort into the Guilds. BlashyrkhRavendark
It is absolutely thief lore... You gain a buff that increases gems from chests.... Isn't that every thiefs wet dream? That beeing said, i wish there was more to the bards college than just "hey, go fetch a couple of instruments that you will never get to play, and then gtf-outtahere"
gsmanners
Maybe a compromise? How about a quest where you find all the parts of the crown and deliver them to Vex, and Vex gives you the privilege of visiting the cistern. That seems doable and not too far-fetched.
