The Golden Claw is a radiant quest??

Im uncertain as to what you are trying to get at. Do you just want someone to confirm or deny the claim? I mean, if it's not true then so be it. If it is, who cares?

I'm looking for somebody to explain this to me, assuming that it is true. I'm curious about how much radiant story works behind the scenes in skyrim. My understanding was that it generated random quests for you, such as the endless contracts after completing the dark brotherhood, but it seems like I keep running into static quests that are marked as radiant quests.

Well I don't believe this one can be radiant. The Golden claw is linked to the specific door in that specific dungeon. Further, there are scripted events within the dungeon that are relevant only to that particular quest, and that particular quest is needed to advance in that particular dungeon in order to progress in the main quest. (or if the radiant stuff does handle the quest it certainly doesnt make it random)

Random or not, just save often if you are not sure. I still have the Stello quest active in my log. The one when you have to enter a backdoor in a keep, and unlock the front door so Stello and his thugs can enter the keep. Problem is Stello died from the bandits in the keep, and the quest still says Return to Stello to complete. I CAN'T IF HE'S DEAD!. I thought about cheating and useing the console to rez him, but I am affraid, by useing the console for one simple thimg, may bug my Skyrim, more then it already is. So make sure to save often.

Shouldn't bother it. Just save before you do it, and see if he actually gets the dialogue to continue the quest. If he does, you can rekill him and move on with your life.

I think the answer is simple ... The Golden Claw Quest has several parts, using it to enter the dungeon is scripted I believe, but if you don't want to, you never have to give the claw back to it's 'rightful' owner ...

Just don't use the conversation option "Did something happen?" Or, alternatively, go to the Barrow on you're own, you do not need to have anyone 'tell' you to visit it or have the daughter 'lead' you to the bridge (and point at the fewking enormous mountain and the fewking enormous ruin that has already been pointed out to you <sigh>)

I never bother now, I just go straight up there after stealing <ahem> borrowing everything from the Smith's at Riverwood, (I always go the Imperial option to start with for this reason) then head up to the Barrow, kill everything, get the Shout, get the Dragon Tablet (for later) and head to Whiterun ...

A radiant quest is just a random pop-up prompt for a NPC to talk to you and get you to do something pointless, the radiant AI doesn't change quests as you adventure through them everything is scripted to a certain level, this is why Skyrim didn't meet my expectations.

I dont think its a radiant quest. Radiant quests are the type where one or more components are randomly generated; retrieve X item from Y dungeon or kill X bandit/giant/dragon at Y location... do enough misc quests and you will run into a few of these, generally not worth doing unless you want gold or just to explore or kill things without getting involved in a major side-quest.

The Golden Claw is a fixed, scripted quest... even if you dont get the quest from Lucan, if you go to bleak falls barrow you will automatically get the quest when you overhear the first 2 bandits inside talking about Arvel (the dark elf). Noteworthy is that you cant return the claw to Lucan (or Camilla if Lucan is dead) until you have learnt the unrelenting force shout & killed the draugr at the end of the dungeon, after opening the puzzle-lock door, presumably so players dont get stuck if they go back at a later date for the dragonstone, although puzzle claws (and other sellable quest items) never disappear from vendors sale lists after you sell it to them so it would be inconvenient but hardly irrecoverable unless for some reason you threw it in a ditch ;P
