Stealthy Characters

How do you guys/girls go about making your character sneaky? Do you start out sneaky in the tutorial area and just continue or do you start out sword & board and then move into sneaky later?

I already know about the Greybeard trick to leveling Sneak, but I was wondering if my fellow Dovahkiin had other ways to go about it.

Also, which do you prefer: Bows or Daggers?

How best to level up Light Armor so it's not such a let down compared to Heavy Armor?

Stealthy assassin type right? For those types I follow this rule:

"The rifle is the first weapon you use, because it lets you keep your distance from the client. The closer you can get to being a pro, the closer you can get to the client. The knife, for example, is the last thing you learn."

As for leveling up Sneak, I sneak into dungeons and basically never get out of Sneak mode unless they see me and I need to do melee fighting because they've seen me. As for using a bow, after a shot, wait for the eye to close again before making another, unless you have a really good shot and can make a kill, or willing to risk being spotted.

I leveled up sneak by always sneaking in dungeons and other hostile environments.

As for weapons, I prefer bows, if I see target in range.

When I'm up close, I'm using short swords. As they can do more damage in non-stealthy combat than daggers.

But if you just want max damage, then get ancient shrouded gloves and dagger perks. It will allow you to deal x30 damage with daggers in stealth.

Sneaking in dungeons is a great way to level up Sneak. Also using bows while sneaking helps level up sneak really quickly. I have a level 45 sneaky archer and she can one shot everything except higher level enemies like Draugr Death Lords. (Believe me, getting those sneak kill shots never gets old. I still giggle when I wipe out a room full of draugr without them ever figuring out where I am.) I'm currently working on Enchanting so I can add just that little more damage to my bow.

I started out with the bow straight away. I rarely use a dagger and I have Mehrune's Razor for when I need that. I can usually kill any enemy with my bow though, even if they've found me. The dagger's just the fall back for when I get caught out. I've barely bothered with the light armour perks until now. I've been concentrating on Sneak and Archery. If you kill it before it gets to you, it doesn't matter what your armour is.

Do you go about killing Dragons the same way...just pelt it with arrows until it's dead?

That's how I do it.

I started by sneaking in every area. Also inside towns is very good to try pickpocket which is also level up together with sneaking, plus u gain extra money. Then I worked with a bow, trying to get enemy from a far. Dagger comes hand in hand with bow or later. What I tried to do also was to get smithing, enchanting and alchemy at high levels. Right now I am a felix 47 level assassin with 100% at sneak, pickpocket and smithing, around 80% in alchemy and enchanting and 60% at one-hand, archery and light armor. As u can see I prioritized fixing my ultimate weapons first and then level up my own damage (using marksman and armsman). The results are gr8 since I am in the middle of Thieves Guild quest only (didnt touch other quest) and i managed to create myself a daedric bow (100 dmg), a dagger (75 dmg) and a sword (85 dmg).

There's the tavern method to sneaking, seeing as there's always a bartender and a shadowy corner behind him.

My stealth character doesn't do combat, though. I try like hell to avoid combat missions, and when it's a "go kill him to get X" mission I usually pickpocket it off 'em instead. I prefer to have my narrow close calls with the NPCs in the dungeon and have to make tracks instead of doing combat. I keep a bow, but it's a Longbow and I only use it to distract NPCs by sending an arrow down a hallway. If you're a true thief, that's my advice. If you're an assassin,I hear in the bear part of the tutorial, you can repeatedly backstab the other guy and he won't move/acknowledge it.

I myself make sure to use as much + to sneak gear early on with my new build. I also only wear clothes; no armor, and the only weapons at my disposal are poisons and my daggers (I may start using a sword when I go through the end-game stuff). I rarely get involved in combat; usually it's either sneak-sneak-sneak-reverse-pickpocket-poison or sneak-sneak-sneak-stab. Using bow is significantly easier, but I've been enjoying the challenge of daggers.
