PC/GPU Set up help

Yeah, I too thought that the 8500/8600 cards would be good choices as well when they first came out, and then I tried both the 8600GT and GTS and found them both lacking. Once I returned them and got the 7950, I understood why the nvidia 7900 series got such good reviews (and why the 8600 and below series got such bad ones). It's really a shame the 7900's are so scarce these days because there is still nothing Nvidia makes short of an 8800 that performs better (other than perhaps the 9600GT, though I've not tried it). Far as suggestions, here is mine:

Obviously that all depends on how much you are willing to fork out for a new card, but I can promise you that for under $200, the 8800GT would best anything else you're going to find unless you are able to spend at least twice that much, and sadly most of us aren't able to. The 9600GT was also a good suggestion as well, but in my opinion I still like the 8800GT a little more and they're about the same price.

Happy hunting.

Uhm another question guys, my RAM now is 2Gb 667, how come when i view the latency speed it only registers a 333 speed?

@all

sorry if i'm kind of ignorant about certain aspects of the PC hardware :)

DDR2 533 runs at 266.5 Mhz,

DDR2 667 runs at 333.5 Mhz,

DDR2 800 runs at 400 Mhz... ect..

Your RAM = DDR2-667 @ 1/2 Speed = Roughly 333mhz.

Also you have to keep in mind that your RAM is running in Single Channel Mode, which is also killing your performance. Your video card is not the sole cause for your performance woes.

Here is some basic info for you to read about RAM.
