Vault 88 (Again)

Some thought on Vault 88;

- Delete monster spawns inside (It's supposed to be a bloody vault!)

- Allow power connection to run up stair modules.

- Move the entrance to somewhere not stupid, because under a radioactive raider camp is stupid.

Some thoughts on how it would have to be done;

- The two back entrances would have to be sealed off and made into isolated 'mini sites'

- Perhaps the vault could be uncovered somehow in game? Such as 'place mini nuke here and get the hell away' to uncover the vault entrance.

Well, I've never had an enemy spawn "inside" my vault 88, (never actually even had a settlement attack, now that I think on it)

But I agree, spawn points inside settlement bounds is totally ridiculous, that goes for all settlements really.

I do agree that having the entrance in the Radioactive Pit, Raider Camp is stupid ... but I guess it .. kinda ... sorta ... ties into what the ghoul chick says about why they built vault 88 where they did (for the supposed uranium deposits)

The place does need an open area, easily accessible, external entrance, for the supply caravans to stand near, so I guess the Pharmacy entrance would need to stay .. .but, the main entrance SHOULD have been through the subway station, that at least would have been familiar, and tied in to several other vaults we've seen. clearing out the subway station, and then clearing a path to the main workbench would seem more "lore friendly"

They could also have then have given you the option to clear the train tunnels to other vaults, via the subway system ... That would have been a fantastic addition, allowing you to create a whole network of underground vaults, each linked to a station for above ground access.

Yet one more example of Bugthesda not even thinking partially through anything. (Like why TF is the tunnel leading down to the water purifier not at the correct angle or for stairways, and not wide enough for wide "utility" sections? )

@JimandConrad

Indeed! that'd be awesome to see done.

I'm keen to see how you'd make V88 your own and customize it.

A couple of projects will be addressing this;

Under-Boston,

University Point remade and Good Institute main quest overhaul,

Enclave Returns...

those might take a while though, so in the meantime;

It is possible to make that happen, now.

Method;

you could use -

Any Door Any Where

Build your own settlement vault (Darth Wayne, Snap-n-build etc)

Greek-rage's "secret entrances" - roadways, walls, trap doors, whatever...

Basement Living

New-Lands - Vault interior etc.

Red Rocket Settlements mod

several power connection mods and power-overhaul project.

so,

with these mods,

you can build an elevator in the FONV large industrial style

from the Quincy South Red Rocket/Enclave site Quincy.

you could have a HUGE settlement from that Quincy overpass, which then connects underground to V88.

this cargo elevator could then come down into the Vault Door atrium area.

The main elevator could be from the road near the Quarry even.

You could make the entrance be in from Poseidon near Quincy...

You can connect V88 to Under-University Point.

University Point then connects to 'tram-tubes" out to Poseidon Offshore Boston (beyond Spectacle Island, there is an oil bulb and several crashed shipping freighters)

You can also extend V88 to be more of a FO3/FONV style vault.

So, you seal off the Quincy Quarry entrance, and make that via Any Door Any Where,

reference an empty cavern - a false Vault Tec entrance, presumably a Vault Tec experiment.

a few notes or a holotape and some skeletons/broken scrap robots from homemaker mod will add the finishing touch.

A random sample of V88 inhabitants were not told entirely where V88 was located... they had to figure it out,

from the other groups of Vault Tec intakes, so as to be in the right place at the right time.

When they thought they were getting guaranteed protection from atomic annihilation, they were actually getting a premium seat in a cave.

Then, you choose where you want the 'real' entrance to be, and make that cavern piece or 'door',

reference the actual V88 vault.

good luck, and I look forward to seeing what you do with V88

Awesome thoughts guys.

Not only adopting your ideas, but another idea could be to click on one of the earth moving machines to initiate 'back fill'. This would dimply delete that cavern section except for the vault modules so things cannot get 'outside' the modules. In effect the cavern is filled with earth around the modules.
