Is ambient sparring possible?

In one of my levels I would like to have a number of guards sparring with each other. There is an ambient setting that allows you to have one object attack another, but it's used for things like target practice with bows and arrows. I've tried doing it with scripting using the CombatStart command as well as the Ambient_DoCommand, but neither work. Setting it up in the area variables is pointless as well. It requires you tag the target as the tag of the attacker with _target added to it. So I can have one attack another, but the other just dodges the attack or gets hit, doing nothing in return.
