Weapon invisible

Hi all,

 

I have the greatest trouble with getting my weapon in skyrim, I will list what I have done, and what doesn't work.

 

Created a weapon in Maya

Created textures in PS, converted to DDS (2048x2048)

exported to 3dmax

Exported to NIF

Opened Nif in NifSkope, set the texture path.

Weapon looks good in Nifskope, no parts or texture missing.

Saved it again

 

location nif:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data\meshes\weapons\swordX\swordX.nif

location texture:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data\textures\weapons\swordX\swordX.dds (and a "_n" version)

 

I have used both Tesnip (FMM) and skyedit to create a new model... to no avail

Even after simply replacing a sword in a working weapon mod (gandalf sword ;-)...or making a recipe for it... the result remains the same: an invisible sword.

 

What am I doing wrong?

If I left out some crucial information, let me know.

Well if this is not some kind of bug and your file really looks like that:

Then it won't work, there is only the model with the shader properties in the NIF, no other needed files.

 

Compare it to the daedric sword nif:

If you have no idea how to do that just tell me which weapon you want to replace with this machete, i'll create the needed NIF files for you...you can make them standalone them afterwards as well.

 

As well you used a lot of polygons for this model, nearly 20.000 tris...most weapons in this game have more or less than 1000 - low polyon modelling is prefered in gaming industry :D

20.000 Really? that is too much indeed.

But in the future I would like to get it right myself, where did I go wrong with making the nif look so much different? Isn't there a tutorial I could follow?

 

Well, any axe will do I guess. You don't have to do this for me, but I would appreciate it very much!

So here is your personal tutorial:

 

Hope it works, the video compression is bad so change to 1080p.

 

This is just the base knowledge without blood effects and all that stuff...if you manage to import your machete i can show you the rest.
