slu77er
Hi all, I'm new here so show a lil' mercy b4 u flame me pls. I have searched thru some of the previous pages of posts but found nothing recent that was relevant so here goes... I have both the original Elder Scrolls IV and the GOTY Edition and I have all of the official mods which work fine in sync with the OBMM BUT I cannot get any unofficial mods to work! I have no trouble downloading them and have a folder full of mods I wish to use sitting on my desktop but unless they have an .omod extension OBMM won't see them! Is there another program I need that I am as yet unaware of? Do I need to somehow convert these files to .omod? Or... Constructive replies very appreciated, Thanks. LFact
First, read this. And for most cases, readme file tells how-to.
bben46
Welcome to Tesnexus This sounds like you haven't unzipped the downloads. What format are your downloaded files in? If they are istill in the format you downloaded, .rar, 7z then they need to be unzipped first. Oblivion only recognizes files in its native formats such as .esp, .esm, .bsa, .nif, .dds. to unzip (extract) the files you need a program such as 7-zip. available here. http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15579 unlike others, 7-Zip will handle almost any compressed (zipped) type file. And even 7-zip is zipped. However, it is a self unzipping file. just click on it and follow the instructions. Then use the 7-zip to unzip your downloads. - Read the instructions. Then - don't try to install every mod you have all at one time. That is asking for problems as many mods are incompatible and will cause problems. start with a simple small mod that does only one thing. something like a single weapon added to the game. Install it, activate it and test it first. Then, after you have one mod working, down load several, but not a large mod that changes a lot of things. Test them f before proceeding. For large mods such as OOO or Frans, install those by themselves and then test them. Its always a good idea to read the readme that is (almost always) packaged as part of the file. it should warn you if some other program or mod is required and may warn you about some incompatibilities or special installation requirements. slu77er
Thanks guys, sorry for taking so long to respond... Since the original post I have uninstalled Oblivion, repaired registry, defragged C: and reinstalled the game. I went the whole hog as I had already played thru the game a couple of times in standard format and was aiming for a revamped look this time around. Both replies were helpful and appreciated and have taught me something whilst also solving my problem. Kudos to bben46 for timely advice on playing with smaller mods b4 taking on OOO which happily is now working like a charm. Good work guys, again thankyou.
