The "VR Robot" Mod - Remote controlled robots
Name is just a placeholder atm.

tl:dr
This mod would allow you to control a power armor styled robot from the safety of you settlement. You can build your own robot at a new crafting station and control it via a vr-like control station. The crafting and control station would be located in any settlement and while controlling the robot you can do anything that you can do while in power armor.

Long Version
There will be a new crafting station in the game (name undecided). With this station you can craft a new type of "robot". I quote it, because on the technical side it isn't going to be a robot but more like a power armor. The different is, that you are not inside the power armor / "robot", but rather sit inside a "vr-pod" (Memory pod). While you control the robot from inside the vr-pod you can do anything that you can do while wearing power armor. So: fighting, strolling, settlement building, questing ... you name it.

The robot can be damaged and destroyed but you don't die, if your "health" falls below 0%, because your body is still back at the settlement. You would just exit the vr-pod, create a new robot and continue.

Style of the robot
I got inspired after looking at some fan-/concept art for halo.

Gameplay

As I already mentioned, to use this mod you must first create a new crafting station. The newly added station would allow you to create and customize a new bot. After creating a new robot you would "activate" it so you can control it later. To control the bot you would enter a vr-pod. (The vr-pod could be displayed by the memory pod). After entering the pod, you take control over the newly crafted robot.

Controlling the bot would be the same as if you were in power armor. You can use any weapons, you can activate objects, build settlements and do basic questing. All this while your body is still at the settlement.

Once you exit the vr-pod, the robot would deactivate wherever you left it and can be reactivated whenever you enter the vr-pod again. However, everything that you loot while controlling the robot will still be in the bot's inventory. It has to be immersive somehow

If your robot is destroyed you would just exit the vr-pod without any harm.

Upgrading the bot would work just as regular power armor. You can change the looks of it (basic color and mesh) and give it upgrades like better damage resistance or other stuff.

Pros and cons

Over regular power armor

+ If you "die" in a firefight while controlling the bot, you don't actually die. You just exit the vr-pod and get another try

+ You would have a higher carrying capacity

+ You could switch the bot you control "on the fly" and basically activate a bot on the other side of the map

- Your player character is always located in the settlement. So you can't just "leave" the bot and be wherever your bot is. (This could be changed with some modules like a institute-teleporter thing)

Technical

I'm not an experience modder by any mean, but here's how this could work out: The robot would act like regular power armor. However you can't just "enter" the bot by pressing E while standing next to it. You would have to activate the vr-pod and a script will then "enter" the "robot" for you. So it basically acts like power armor with some tweaks.

The robots would use a separate power armor frame with new mesh and texture. Changing parts of the bot would work just like changing parts of power armor. To decide which bot you are going to control, you would need to go to the bot and press the activation key. A pop-up menu than allows you to select the current bot.

I think this shouldn't be too difficult to create.
