jonmosin
i have looked through the nexus and i need something to remove negative happiness. all my settlements have more than enough but when im elsewhere they behave like every resource is at 0 (beds, defence, food, water. ect....) PS if there is one on the nexus please notify me.
mkr1977
It sounds like your game is bugged, and a mod is not the way to fix it.
caleb68
actually I think this one is a bug in fallout 4 to be honest, on my ps4 I can end up with this happening at sanctuary right off the bat from a new game with no mods, just the dlc addons. Vault 88 is one that constantly does that on the ps4, you'll get everything setup looking good, then head out to continue doing quests, and the next thing you know you have -20 happiness, with 7 settlers, 20 water, 20 food, 50 power and 40 defense. then you head back and bloop, it jumps back up to normal within a day. kevkiev
Although I've never seen every resource go down to zero when you're away from a settlement, having at least one resource do that (and happiness dropping as a result) is a very well known vanilla bug. Super annoying but, honestly, I wouldn't hold my breath for a mod that fixes it. There's a gazillion posts about the bug on the 'net, including bethesda's own forum, and if bethesda knew how I'm sure they would have patched/fixed it by now. (Kinda sure?) There's a "setav" console command that, apparently, you can use on a settlement's workshop bench to set happiness (setav 129157 100 to set it to 100) but I've always been leery of setav commands so have never used it myself. If you're feeling brave, let us know how that works. Note: there's no end of myths about the cause of this bug - tv's, jukeboxes, fast-travelling... etc etc. But that's all they are - myths. MissingMeshTV
Personally, I gave up caring about settlement happiness ages ago. Then I came across this gem of a mod here on the Nexus: Happy Maker 9000 It let's you build a jukebox that cranks settlement happiness to 100%. It's not for everyone as it does set the happiness to 100%, but if you're fed up with trying to deal with the various bugs and quirks of settlement happiness, it works really well. I've been using it for about six months or so and my game has been much more enjoyable not having to deal with the happiness crap. To try and keep it balanced, I didn't build the Happy Maker until after I considered a settlement finished. But when I was done with a place and didn't care about the happiness anymore, out came the Happy Maker.

But when I was done with a place and didn't care about the happiness anymore, out came the Happy Maker. Thanks for posting that, I think I might just check that mod out. I tell myself I don't care about happiness (so long as I don't actually lose a settlement), but still find myself quickly going to settlements that are being afflicted with one of the happiness bugs. Freaking capital "A" annoying. (I've actually read posts by people who've lost settlements b/c of this.) Would be nice to avoid that completely. Actually, the one that's been mentioned is bad enough, but at least it's easily fixed by a visit. The more aggrivating one (imo) is when all resources show properly but happiness still drops. Once in a while one of my settlements will start dropping although everything is fine (full resources, nothing in need of repair, no recent or impending attacks, no synths, all NPCs pathfinding their beds ok etc etc). Eventually it goes away (so far) but, damn, those 10-15 point drops are freaking aggravating. Besides, I've never quite got the vanilla happiness thing anyways. Always seemed kinda silly to me to build a settlement with umpteen clinics, tradestands, restaurants and clothing stores even though Diamond City itself seems to do fine with just one of each. Not to mention doing that to the exclusion of any weapon/ armor stores. (There's a mod called "Happy Stores" that gives armor/weapons stores a happiness bonus.) Never mind that really jacking defence or otherwise improving your settlement in practical ways doesn't mean squat either.

MightyZ0G
but is it a bug or is a synth messing with the resources? I'm not sure if it does change anything, but Sim Settlement's dynamic settler needs function might fix the vanilla happiness, as long as the settlers have things to do (bars, shops, weight lifting bench, etc) and the resources are all coming in (food, water, defense, etc) as my settlers are happy most of the time, even when I don't pay much attention to them
jkruse05
Supposedly settlements will very slowly lose happiness if you don't visit them regularly. They miss you I guess. If all the resources are fine I guess that could be a reason. Might also be that they have something broken or bodies lying about. It may also drop happiness if they have a quest they want you to do that you haven't shown up to accept. I know broken objects and bodies decrease it for sure, not as sure about the others. kevkiev
Supposedly settlements will very slowly lose happiness if you don't visit them regularly... I've read that before in a few places (mainly early on in the game's life when people were still figuring out how everything worked) and am convinced it's absolute bunk.
