gamenode
I was just enchanting some gear and I wondered how much sneak do I really need? I've got several items that fortify sneak. How much is too much? I probably have around 80 in sneak skill so I expect that to increase to 100, but how much fortification do I need until it stops improving? tx
worldofscotty
It never stops improving. It's not like a game where you eventually become invisible. It's situational. I have 100 sneak and all the enchants. I still get busted sometimes when I pass through light or if they turn and I'm approaching. In the dark they can sometimes stand right in front of me though and not see me if I don't move. I think level comes into it too. Sometimes I sneak up on mobs and they turn and attack me like they heard me. Not sure about that Also you can have more that 100 if thats what you mean. If you have 40 through enchants and 100 then you do have 140. its not wasted Edited February 2, 2012 by worldofscotty

I'm at level 45, and I found glass boots of muffling from War Maiden's. I disenchanted it and put it on different boots, and it silences your footsteps. It is better than that one sneaking perk, which only reduces the noise by 50%. If you want to get such boots from War Maiden's, make sure to check the inventory from both Adrianne and her husband. They carry different apparel. Edited February 2, 2012 by Dubnoman
Sheralynn
There are def some things that can break sneaking. Had it on one of my characters. Hit 100 and after a while all of a sudden it became completely useless. Never found out why. Suspected it maybe had something to do with becoming a werewolf because it started after that. Wearing any fortify sneak apparel seemed to make it even worse.
TimF
Maxing out sneak without enchantments seems being enough. I've run a test, with 100 sneak, 1-st level perk and vampirism, on v1.3, I was able to sneak on everyone. With +100 fortify sneak hat added via console, I was unable to sneak at all, being detected instantly. So generally, I'd say - use enchantments if they don't make your sneak go beyond 100 points. In case someone doesn't know, there is a bug which makes sneak and some other skills degrade when fortified with enchantments, instead of upgrading.
