nick20404
JW seen in the new video that you will be able to make mods/upload/download them all through steam so I am wondering will people still be using Skyrim nexus to get, upload mods? thedemoninside
People will use both. Its crappy that we have to search 2 different databases now instead of just using the nexus.
Vohcaz
Won't kill it thats for sure. There are plenty of mods that won't be allowed on steam. It is, however, too early to predict HOW much it will affect the skyrim section of the nexus.
ciner13
The main thing i seen from the new CK steamworks video is that it will automatically update your mods. Right now we have to manually download the new version and uninstall the old there is no overwriting that i have seen in the mod manager.
GisleAune
Then not swear to one platform. If I ever come to the stage of releasing a mod, I would upload it both here and on the workshop.
Werne
If nothing it wil at least reduce the pressure on the servers allowing the site to work faster. But I don't think it will kill it, Nexus is more popular when it comes to modding Bethesda games than Steam Workshop so in my opinion, there won't be much of a change. Thasic
I think that Steam Workshop may expand modding to some degree. We fans of Nexus may like to think that everyone that owns a Nexus game peruses these pages but in actuality a very small fraction of game owners even know Nexus or modding exists. Since Steam is a must use for most of these games, a lot more people will be exposed to the concept of mods and modding. With that knowledge it is likely many of these devotees will stumble upon or be directed to Nexus. I believe that many of these new modders will upload to both sites thereby expanding our scope of mods, modders and downloaders. That's good for everyone. Also, as others have pointed out, many of the most popular mods will not be allowed on Steam for one reason or another and many Nexus modders will not upload to Steam in any event. Considering that and the fact that Steam has that auto update feature, which comes with a large number of negatives in my opinion, most Nexus users probably won't download from Steam often if at all. All things considered, I seriously doubt Steam will impact Nexus much at all. I believe Nexus will make Steam a has been before it even starts. Alithinos
Nah.. I will let you on,on a secret. Some months ago, before Skyrim gets released I wanted to install Steam,so I can have it ready the day I buy the game. But I couldn't do it,because after Steam's installer ended, the .exe was self-deleted every single time.I searched on Google for solutions and I found some workarounds but none of them worked. It seemed that for some reason my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate had some kind of "smart" defense system that is supposed to protect my computer, and it deleted steam.exe every time it was installed...I communicated with Microsoft, and they directed me to seek answer from Valve.I communicated with Valve, and they didn't had an answer. I thought that I could never install Steam on my computer and thus could never be able to play Skyrim legally, and that I would be thus forced to pirate it.I was searching the internet with Google for weeks...But guess what ? One day I joined Nexus's chat, the very same one you can join if you click "Chat" at the top of this page, and I told of my problem there. Some dude I don't remember his nickname told me a solution that I tried, and it f***ing WORKED!!!I had to write some lines in the Command Prompt just to make it able for Steam to install on my computer, and both Microsoft Support and Steam Support departments where useless in providing solutions, yet a random modder dude in the Nexus chat knew and offered me the solution for my problem, and I was able then to install Steam in just 5 minutes. The conclusion of this story is that here on the Nexus we have some brilliant people with knowledge of how to do stuff, and you just can't find that level of immediate help from anywhere else.Even if it is Official Support Departments of big companies...So no,Nexus won't become irrelevant any time soon. Because this isn't just a mod database..It's a community of people with knowledge in various fields that are willing to help each other, and co-create. TheElderInfinity
Well, Steam is naturally going to have the problem that REALLY large mods will be over a user's upload cap, and the creators will need special permission from Valve (since they're the ones running the servers) to upload it, which would only happen if it became REALLY popular elsewhere. So there's that. Though I do fear sites like Nexus will end up becoming havens for "risque" mods and not much else.
