Alixya
Hey! I'm brand new to modding - not got the slightest idea what I'm doing - and I'm trying to open the malebody_1.dds file so I can add some tattoos to it.The skin texture is actually from the Tempered Males mod, and I'm able to open the hand textures fine but not the body textures.I had the exact same problem with trying to edit a completely different Fallout 4 skin too, and I'm no closer to solving it now :\Is there something I have to do with the file before I can edit it?I've tried GIMP and Paint.Net and neither have been able to open the malebody_1.dds file. Thanks! PeterMartyr
I have Gimp with both the DDS & Normals Plugin, I have no trouble at all, in editing both the DDS & in creating Normal Maps for them (when required), so set it up properly. I'll link where I got them, but I got 'em three fours ago, and if any one gonna do Google Search it's gonna be you. Good luck.

noraimironhand
Your getting into the DX problem. Only the $$$$$ programs can edit the new DX12 format. Gimp is working on it but they say it’s going to be awhile before they are compatible. The work around is to use the old Skyrim textures (either HD or vanilla). So if its vanilla just use the original skyrim texture. If it’s somebody else’s texture, just download the vanilla skyrim mod and use that texture.Remember to give credit if you use someone else’s texture!
