  1. 1. What sort of stuff would you like to see in Riverwood? Pick any that you'd want to see.

    • A recruitable dog (the owner of Stump given another that he's willing to sell)
    • An apotecary that sells alchemy ingredients and potions
    • A new companion
    • More explorable areas nearby
    • Tougher nearby enemies
    • Custom Riverwood guards
    • Quests!
    • Other (post in comments)

I've always had some sort of strange affinity with the first friendly settlement you encounter in TES games, whether it be a sprawling megopolis like the Imperial City in Oblivion, or a dingy port town in Morrowind, I always seem to end up establishing my base there and using it as a jump-point for new adventures from start to finish. With Skyrim I felt like Bethesda had nailed the environment of Riverwood, it's simply beautiful; but it is flat in terms of content, size, characters, and just about everything else. Thus, the Riverwood Expansion Project begins!

The Plan (v.01)

First, I would like to place some new buildings and NPCs within Riverwood to give the town a more lively environment. A miner's barracks behind the Sleeping Giant Inn and a basic iron mine at the base of the mountain to the east would seem like a good starting point. Optionally, as a first quest for new players, the mine could be currently taken over by some sort of beasts (spiders, wolves?), much like the mine at Shor's Stone is when the player first arrives. A small coin reward and the gratitude of the miners would likely be the reward. After that I'll move onto expanding the village and some of the outlying areas.

General rough ideas I have currently (not sorted):

Miner Barracks

Riverwood Mine

Apothecary

Guard Hut

New Follower

Quest to retrieve 'x' unique from Embershed Mine

Purchasable Dog

Transfer ownership of the secret room to player after its owner leaves

Trapdoor addition to secret room for integration w/ Dovahkiin hideout

More explorable caves/mines/hideouts/locations nearby

Some minor quest to do with the guardian stones (kinda weird that the three of them just sit there for seemingly no reason)

(If it's possible) Riverwood guards, that have different equipment than the Whiterun ones

Please post any suggestions, ideas, criticisms, or comments :)

Sounds awesome man. I don't know about this, but wouldn't putting the apothecary right next to the saw mill seem a bit out of place?

My suggestion would be to put the hut between the hunter's camp and Gerdur's house. That way the Apothecary could easily get her or his supplies.

Nice idea. If the projects turns out to be big, you could even make a quest to make it a new independent small hold.

I'd like to see it as a little fort. You could extend the walls and make the sawmill island to look a lil bit more like an artificial island with canals at its sides.

If Skyrim has big ass wall meshes, it shouldnt take much effort i hope. If it has little wall meshes, that could take some time...

Also I had an suggestion about the Hunter's camp.

How about someone there would give you a quest to find a missing hunter, who it turns out has been taken by a Forest Troll in the area (the aformentioned tougher enemy) and you and two other hunters mount a rescue, killing the Troll, taking everything that isn't nailed down and making the surrounding area safe once more.

And I'm sure there's a few things that can be done about the old lady that lives just outside of town...

It's more a question of space, I don't really want to extend the town's size as a whole as I feel it fits nicely into the village category at the moment, but nothing is solid and I may indeed stick it there. Thanks for the suggestion.

this sounds really great and i have but one request: PLEASE make it compatible with horrorview's sexy city mods

Shouldn't be any incompatibilities, I don't intend to use any textures that aren't vanilla, that way the whole place would be changed by alternate textures as desired.

That sounds quite awesome. Definitely will try and work that one in :)

Some very basic player housing wouldn't go amiss either, a teeny little hut to call your own :)

If you are considering the mine thingy, qyou could make a little quest such that if you cleared the mine, you could inherit it from its previous owner who got killed in the infestation, and take over a little foreman's hut or something like that.

EDIT: Actually, screw the foremans house. That's too expensive to give away - rather, why not just put a bed, a chest and a cooking pot within the mine itself?

It's definitely a nice idea. I love Riverwood and would really like to spend more time there, especially in a proper player owned house.

I would however avoid adding the same things you see in other villages like spider infested mines and barracks. That's just dull. Put some more mind into it and have it more unique and interesting instead ;)

How about a Riverwood Manor just outside the town? originaly owned by the mines owner but abandoned as he couldnt afford the upkeep, full of bandits and a sorry sight. The mine owner goes into serious debt and you buy it off him (then kill the bandits) to help him out then you renovate it and it becomes an amazing player house?
