squit
Hi everybody! I was working on a little plugin for my own. I really admire all the lord of the rings movies, so I thought: "lets rebuilt rivendell in morrowind". So I found a way to get my hands on 3Ds MAX 5 and I started building a house. I knew there was a way to export the .3ds files to .nif. so I did. but HELP(!!!) I need textures. I tried a thousend ways to add textures to my mesh but it really didn't work. So I spent some minutes on google.com and found the morrowind plugin: Middle Earth (Joehoe!) I hoped there was somebody here that could texture my meshes. in exchange you could use my meshes in your plugin. It is rivendell architecture. plzzz think about it... here and here are screenshots of my first building. I hope someone can drag my out of this hole.... PS. the mesh isn't finished yet... Ëlwe (Thingol)
Sorry, but this doesn't look like to have any connection with ME mod. I have to ask to replace this topic. It does look like a nice piece of moddeling though. ;) Ëlwe
Peregrine
So what exactly are you asking for? Do you need the textures themselves made? Or are you just having trouble applying them to the model?
Akrid
BTW I'm still having this same problem also. I can make the textures any format with photoshop and appy them in 3dsMax and the texture is in the directory but in the TES and game the textures come out white. Is this the same problem your having squit? Also I should add I'm using version 5.0 of 3dSmax as well, might that have anything to do with the problem? Almelexia
That is some nice work you've got there. But there is allready a mod called MEmod that have made rivendale. But if you dont want to play a total conversion then you can use tes texture. You can import textures with that utillity to tes cs.
Peregrine
That is some nice work you've got there. But there is allready a mod called MEmod that have made rivendale. But if you dont want to play a total conversion then you can use tes texture. You can import textures with that utillity to tes cs. 1) So he wants to make his own mod... what's wrong with that?2) That won't work. If I understand his problem correctly, he can't get the textures onto the model at all. That tes texture thing won't help if there's no textures/mapping coordinates assigned to the model. And the CS has nothing to do with applying textures to models. Check these things:1) That your texures are all in morrowind/data files/textures and all of your materials in 3dsmax refer to that location.2) The textures are square and dimensions a multiple of 128. I had that white texture problem, and that's what it was.
Akrid
I already knew that stuff from before, but I figured it out. This may solve squit's problem if it's not already. Assuming you know about UV mapping and the material editor in 3DsMax, when choosing a material in the editor choose from the morrowind/data files/textures folder. Look for a file that beshesda made thats aprox the same size as what you want, then see if it works. Then I don't know if the file name matters but change it slightly (the file name has mattered with mesh's for me) and then paste the texture you want to use on it in photoshop or somthing, then map that texture in 3Dsmax and try it out then. Thats what worked for me. It may not all be nessesary. Thanks Peregrine.
ohGr
ahh crap another middle earth reference  *sigh* well, ive had cetain problems with texturing my models as well, i tried to texture my beachball (ok, it was just a circle) and the texture only covered half of it, try to look at the thing by flattenning it in your mind, then cutting it in half, and pasting it on top, then make the texture that way, boom, you apply it to the mesh and there you have it...a beachball...a building is a bloody complicated thing to do it took me a month to figure out how to do the roof, i made every part of it separate, so i can texture all the parts separate...it makes things a potload easier. Akrid
I agree, If you want to add multipule textures to a object, it's possible, but so hard I dare not try it.
squit
My prblem was: I'm having trouble getting the texture on the model. I also see just a white model in TESCS. I hoped that you needed some models voor rivendel, so I thought that I maybe would provide those models and that anybody here could texture it. But I see that that is not the case. Thanx for the tips Peregrine. I'll try it as soon as I have the time. PS. thanx you liked the model. this is the first model I created. It took 1day. I had 3Ds MAX 1 day when I created this  BTW it's not that I want to make an entire MEMOD. the movies are just a great inspiration for my modeling
