Proximitus
In Fallout: New Vegas, I put on the bounty hunter duster, cowboy hat and aviator sunglasses and wielded a revolver, just to suit the wild west scene New Vegas was in. In Fallout 3, I wear an armored vault suit alongside with an eyepatch and the confederate hat from point lookout. Now is my question, wich SMALL GUN (so no energy weapons or miniguns) suit this kind of outfit? I was running around with a hunting and a lever-action rifle, but I was wondering what you guys thought of it! I prefer not to use pistols. M48A5
If you want to keep to cartridge weapons, I suggest the Victory Rifle (a unique sniper rifle) and for close work, the Terrible Shotgun or a Chinese Assault Rifle. Or maybe the Victory Rifle and the Shock Sword from OA.
Moraelin
Hmm, hard to say, since DC doesn't have a particular theme. So basically whatever theme you can think of for your character, is ok. But lemme think of some obvious themes... Well, you can still go with revolvers. You can probably find just as many revolvers there as in Vegas. And if nothing else revolvers are just as associated with police as with cowboys, from lowly traffic cops with some .38 to, for example, Dirty Harry. And until the 1980's, most police officers in the USA carried a .38 or .357 revolver. So, seein' as the game is set in a 50's-60's theme, there would be a lot of those around. But then you could realistically just as well find some Beretta 9mm hanguns (both army and private owners), or a trusty ol' .45 Colt M1911 (and generally a .45 ACP is an USA staple), or really whatever. Or a tommy gun? Works better with a Chicago theme and a fedora, granted, but still, it goes well with an urban lawless setting. Or a grease gun? For a 50's theme, there would be a lot of those in use by soldiers, MP, etc. Or if you're going for the wasteland and improvised look -- judging by that outfit -- then the hunting rifle ain't bad at all. You can't get much more wasteland look than a gun held together with rusty wire.
Proximitus
Yeah I thought so. Every pictures of the Lone Wanderer and Dogmeat walking down the road shows a hunting rifle. Need to upgrade the stats on that one then! For staying realistic, I assume thatonly changing the damage will do?
KDStudios
Personally I'd stick with a Hunting Rifle. It was always my favourite weapon of choice during my roleplays and even late in the game I still fell back onto it if I ever needed it. Moraelin
Well, there is an "upgrade" for it later in the game, the Ol' Painless. So I suppose you could up the damage on that one when you get it. Might also want to have a look at stuff like Lincoln's Repeater though. Just in case it looks good too to you. Who knows? On second thought, there are quite a few bolt action rifle mods around too, which kinda look like they could be a hunting rifle. The lone wanderer screens in FO2 were so low res and stuff that, meh, it's not like you can tell exactly what model of a hunting rifle it is. babyeatingdingo
i prefer a regular assault rifle (in my game they do the same damage as a chinese assault rifle, and i like their look) and combat armor with a roving trader hat (baseball cap with goggles on top) Edited February 7, 2012 by babyeatingdingo
Moraelin
Personally I'd stick with a Hunting Rifle. It was always my favourite weapon of choice during my roleplays and even late in the game I still fell back onto it if I ever needed it. Well, I probably would too, at least if it didn't have a bent barrell. Used it a lot in ye olde days. My main problem nowadays is that I like making my own meshes a little too much, so the ideas to roleplay tend to end up excuses like, "ooh, I know, I could totally figure out a concept that would use a laser SMG... ho-hum, and some uniforms and rank stripes would go with it at that... then I better make Brisa a medic and give her a laser pistol... well, let's start up Blender, shall we..." Kinda hard to stick to one of the vanilla weapons then, I think you'll agree :P Edited February 8, 2012 by Moraelin
Sarissi
Go according to your tastes and needs. Since I am disabled, and lack the hand/eye coordination and dexterity of normal people, plus moving slower, I have to do things differently. Fallout 3 does not have a theme per say, unless you can say it is Retro Future.
7thsealord
The Nitro Express mod is my suggestion. Looks a lot like the Hunting Rifle anyhow. Awesome damage, ammo supply is "controlled" (can be bought at a couple of places sometimes, and there are a couple of "stashes" as well). Anything smaller than an Overlord is gonna FEEL it when shot by this beauty.
