"Flying Mod Beta - Flying Mod v09 can't be added"

I get this error message and an incomplete download when I try to install the flying mod.

I used to have this mod installed and working prior to using FNIS, but now I'm using NMM and FNIS for greater mod capability. I have successfully installed "Sexy Move" as a trial of the process,

The only thing I might consider even slightly unusual in my installation is that my Skyrim files are on E:\ not C:\

Any clues as to why the mod won't install?

As long as Steam and NMM are on the same hard drive, it does not matter which one they are on. Try a manual download (to somewhere you can easily find) then manually add via the green plus sign in the top left corner.

Thanks for your help, Kroekr. Here are results...

Downloaded manually as suggested, and installed using green "+", sub-option "Add mod from file" showed download complete and activated, but the mod doesn't show up anywhere in any of the categories in the mod list. It didn't show up when running FNIS as user either.

I then tried installing the overhauled version... won't install, showing download "incomplete".

FNIS is happily installed in Animation category, alongside Sexy Move 6.1 and Creature Pack 6_1 (obviously the latter isn't much use yet).

I suspect there's some unstated rule I've broken somewhere...

One more thing, which might be a clue...

Here's the text from running FNIS after removing creature pack (in case the order of installation was important)...

I'm not sure what it means by "not run from a legal (Steam) Skyrim installation directory". It's not as if I chose where to put it myself.

Something has destroyed your registry for Skyrim, for example a registry cleaner. (Only) Steam launch will fix this.

Thank you Kroekr and fore. I have followed the "start Skyrim once through Steam" note - it seemed obvious, easy, and not something to ignore - but it didn't fix things. Starting from vanilla icon rewarded me with a complaint that SKSE wasn't running, which was to be expected, as I've used that from early days.

I'll try reinstalling FNIS, etc, and report. If that doesn't work I suppose I'll just have to take everything down and start again after saving my game files, of course. It's working on my other computer (it's complicated ;-) ) just this "main" computer.

Well I just cleaned everything out with Revo Uninstaller and reinstalled Steam, Skyrim, SKSE, and FNIS successfully.

Running FNIS for users I immediately get the illegal directory again, and I flying mod beta won't install.

Any more clues, please?

I don't know why you use such a program (and probably the freeware version?) to uninstall Steam, Skyrim, ???. Maybe this is the beginning of your FNIS warning by removing Steam/Skyrim registry.

Usually, if you start a save without SKSE you will get a message that SKSE is needed. But that doesn't matter, Steam will put your registry right, and that's all you want. Why it should not do it for you I have no idea. Maybe you don't install Steam through steam?

Anyway, just ignore the FNIS warning.

  • 1 month later...

I STILL cannot install flying mod on this machine ("Sagittarius"; my other machine, "Adopted" has it running perfectly). I've completely taken down NMM, Skyrim, FNIS, SKSE, and clean the registry as best I can. I've installed everything form scratch. On one machine everything works perfectly, on the other, it won't install. I have cloud backup active, so when I go to the working machine I have to refetch the flying books and reactivate flying.

I've tried executing Skyrim form Steam, of course, and that does nothing to fix the problem. FNIS (reinstalled) still complains about the generator not being run from a legal Skyrim directory. My Skyrim absolutely IS legal. At 61 I'm too old and far too wise to waste time playing around with illegal software.

Any more ideas, please?
