hitlike
Hi Now that the mod tools are getting released, I wanted to ask a question. I haven't started playing Skyrim yet due to hectic phase in my life, but soon I will begin my first playthrough. Obviously I want it to be as great as possible so I was wondering the following: How long do you think till bigger, game changing mods start coming out? Will it be weeks after the release of the mod tools, or even months? I have no idea how long it takes to make a mod. I was thinking about waiting some mods before starting my first game, especially a NV style hardcore mode would be so awesome. Also I'm talking about mods that overhaul the games balance and stuff like that, similar stuff they have for the latest Fallout games. Before you ask why I want to wait for the mods, the reason is simple. I have played New Vegas through twice, first time right after release and second time only few months ago. The second playthrough was in a different league and the game was ten times better thanks to big mods, and I wished it was my first playthrough since the plot and missions where already "spoiled" from the first playthrough. Obviously I know that Skyrim is a whole different game and more of a complete product even without the mods, but I can't keep wondering if I should "save" my first playthrough till modders have done their magic. Tldr: the fundamental question I wanted to ask is bolded. Thank you.
Jakisthe
Uh...it depends on the scale of the mod. ...obviously  That said, don't be surprised if notable ones don't come out for at least a week or two. Rennn
I wouldn't listen if people tell you to wait before installing mods. They generally say that you should play through a game once, see what you want changed and get the original experience, and then install big mods. I don't like to listen to those, because in hindsight I really wish that modded Oblivion was the first version I'd played. It would have blown me away. Now I'm stuck wishing that I could start over and get mods first. About the original question, some stuff will come out in a few weeks probably. The bigger, better ones will take months. This is exactly what I was thinking. I would not want to know all the missions and plot twists beforehand when I start the modded, improved from the original playthrough. I guess I give it few weeks before starting the game, it's not like I'm in a hurry or something. Hopefully someone will at least publish mod for hardcore mode by then :) Or other things that add realism, like way lower carrying capacity. These sort of things I want to have "fixed" before I begin with the game..just added realism I guess.
Alithinos
I will tell you my story and I hope you will find it interesting for your question. I picked up Skyrim about a month after it came out,and I started playing my first playthrough with only some graphics and performance mods like texture packs and the 4gb enabler. The default textures where too bad in comparison with the mod ones,so they really standed out whenever I met a default texture next to a Bethesda one. That made me think that it would be better if I actually waited more until more texture packs had come out to play it,because the difference between the detail levels of the two kind of textures are very striking. But I actually played the whole Main Quest, and did only a few side quests due the process. When I completed the main quest,I had already gain some experience regarding what I like in the game and what not,and what I'd like to be modded/different.And I thought "If these specific things where that way different in this game it would be much more enjoyable".So I stopped playing it waiting until my game is modded the way I want to,to continue playing the rest of the game.I haven't done any of the guild questlines yet,and there are numerous general quests there waiting for me too. This story is an example of my experience that I give you to make my point my clear. And my point is that if you don't have a clear picture of how the game is,you don't really know what you would like to add or alter to it.But nobody says that you have to play the whole game once to know what you want to change. You can just play a part of it so you get an idea of what needs fixing, and then install the desired mods and play the rest of it,the way you want it.:)
gsmanners
I would say wait till mid-to-late August. There should be a good spike in game-changing mods right then. Don't ask me why. Just trust me on this.
