Moving from NMM to Mod Organiser. Save game question.

Hi Guys.

Since I first got into modding years ago, I had a couple of years away from Skyrim, I've always used NMM. However I recently have been suffering alot of CTD, and freeze issues. During my fault finding tests, I learnt about correct load orders, and the fact that NMM will only load the mods in the order that they were installed.

I've been playing around with MO, and I've found its a lot more advanced. Also great for conflict resolution, and problem solving.

Since pretty much all of my mods have been installed with NMM, then there's limited features that MO has for these mods. If I was to uninstall ALL the mods through NMM, then reinstall them using MO, would my current save file have any problems? Personally I can't see it doing, as it'll be running the same mods. Then again I'm no expert. That's why I'm asking you guys.

Thanks in advance

Andy.

If you re-install the same mods and ensure that the plugin load order is the same for your save file, you should have no problems. Although a different loose file order (i.e. installation/priority) may make some things appear or behave differently.

MO is vary powerful mod manager. But if your going to make the switch from NMM to MO you are going to need to completely remove skyrim as well as all your mods (make a backup of your saves and enblocal.ini then make a list of your mods first)

> redownload skyrim

> clean master files

> put in new enb

> go though enblocal.ini and adjust settings to match old file

> run skyrim to main menu then exit game

> install MO

> with Default profile adjust skyrim.ini/skyrimpref.ini though MO

> download and install mods

> activate all mods (and only these mods) that'll be used for all playthroughs

> adjust priority order (this is your install order or left window) as best you can

> run loot and then adjust load order to be a little more usable (loot don't get every mod in correct order, but it's s a start)

> adjust priority order even farther (MO will tell you what mods need to be adjusted based off load order)

This will set your main profile, all other profiles will be copied off this.

>copy default profile and name it based off what type of play though you want for it (like the name of the class your going to use [paladin, mage, ext) or from what type of

overhaul you want to use [Requeim, Ordinator, Perma, exc.], or even the name of the char your going to use for it.

>activate additional mods for this profile that'll be used for this playthough.

>adjust priority order (left window) and load order (right window) once again

>run any proccers/bashpatch's needed (do not do this for default profile, as things will change with each profile)

Watch Gophers (try to stay awake as he just has that kind of voice lol) video series on MO to have a better understanding of MO.

No need to completely uninstall and re-download the game. Why take hours when you can reduce that time drastically.

STEP has a good guide on how to revert your game to the stock state without fully removing the game and thus saving a large bulk of download time and data.

Or will it be possible to reinstall the mods through MO? Overwriting the ones previously installed by NMM. Thus giving MO control over them?

No. That is not how MO works. If NMM or any other mod manager installed directly to the data folder, then those files will take priority over anything that MO might make available to the game. For MO to have full management, you will need to uninstall the mods from NMM and/or any other mod manager and re-install with MO.

Yes Ishara is right, since MO stores your mods in a different place. You will have to remove all the mods installed by NMM first, meaning restoring your data folder to its original state (follow the STEP tutorials for that).

A nice feature about MO that you can use to your advantage here, is when hovering you mouse over a safe file. The popup window will let you know witch esp files are missing, i.a.w. what mods were installed on that safe file, that is not active currently in MO.

Edit: oh and make sure your safe files are in the right place using MO :)
