Creation kit doesn't work

I installed the Creation Kit correctly as instructed (in the main Skyrim directory). When I click run Creationkit.exe, the window opens along with an alert

"MODELS : Unable to load CTL file

Context: DEFAULT

"Yes to all" will disable all Warnings to this context

[Yes] [No] [Yes to all]"

After I click yes to all, I get the typical Windows 7 error "Skyrim Creation Kit has stopped working", and it closes.

Did anyone else face this problem? I've update my Skyrim to 1.4.2.1 patch. I also have a lot of mods installed, including ScriptDragon and SKSE. Please help.

When you start the CK, did you click File --> Data, then double-click on Skyrim.esm, click "Set as Active File" and then click OK?

It doesn't even let me get there. As soon as I start, that Alert pops up. When I click "Yes to All", everything hangs and I get "Skyrim Creation kit has stopped working".

PS: I've used Garden of Eden Creation Kit before...so I'm familiar with how CK works.

Hey there,

I am getting the same as you. As soon as i open the CK it hits me with that error. I dont even get chance to open any of the data files. If i click yes or even yes to all it just crashes and eventaully closes the CK... :(

Are you starting the CK from inside Steam? By going into Tools, right-click on Creation Kit and choose "Play"?

If so, you might want to use the age-old trick of going into the properties, local files, verify integrity

When looking at "Creation Kit" in the list of installed tools, right-click on it....you will see "Properties"

EDIT: Now that TK pointed it out...I am curious as to what instructions you are talking about too. You shouldn't have even needed to see an EXE file. It is all handled inside Steam.
