Two Questions: 1) Where do I find my .ini file? 2) Local game file validation

Hello,

I hope it's alright to post two questions in one topic.

1) Where do I find my .ini file?

There's some changes I need to make to my Skyrim ini file (for the Special Edition), but all I can find under My Games> Steam > steamapps > common > Skyrim Special Edition are the following:

low.ini

medium.ini

high.ini

SkyrimPrefs.ini (this one in a folder)

Skyrim_Default.ini

Which one do I need to change? I'm playing the game on high settings, if that information helps.

2) Local game file validation

Because my game would simply ctd when trying to enter Whiterun for the first time, I got the advice to check the local game files. I did that, turns out 4 files failed to validate. Steam reaccquired them. So far so good. Again, I could play the game smoothly for hours, until another ctd happened. Since I made the mistake in prematurely believing the problem was solved, I had started a new character. That character had not been to Whiterun yet.

Validated the local game files again, again the message was "4 files failed to validate..."

Why does it keep loosing those 4 files? Is it because I paly with mods? Am I doomed to play an unmodded Skyrim? How can I suss out the mod which is responsible for the deletion/loss of those 4 files that fail to validate?

And what happens when Steam reaccquires them? Does that mean I have to go back into my .ini file and make the adjustments some mods need every single time my local game files get validated? Or missing files reaccquired?

Thank you for Reading!

I'm on a non-English Win 7 here, so please forgive me, if folders are named somewhat different from what I describe. I can't check how they are named correctly in English.

You shouldn't touch the ini files in your Skyrim folder at all. The ones you want to edit are usually stored in documents/my Games/ Skyrim (or something similar). It's the same directory, that also contains your save game folder.

As for the four files, that can't be validated: I'll leave that for someone who knows more about Steam than I do.

You're partially right in assuming that you have to re-adjust your ini files after validating your game: Ths will indeed reset the ini files to their default content - which makes sense, since otherwise you could be stuck on misconfigured ini files forever. If you don't want your files to be replaced, backup them somehwere out of their default folder and copy them back after validating. BTW, you can also loose some ini settings, when you change game settings with the Skyrim launcher. I noticed that doing so might wipe non-standard lines from your inis. In short: Always keep a backup of your ini files.

As for the Validation Problem...I sure hope someone is able to explain, because it get's rather tiresome, revalidating the local files over and over again. Additionally, I have to clean Update.esm, Dawnguard.esm, Hearthfires.esm and Dragonborn.esm again. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Perhaps it's my load order? Or one of the mods?

This is my load order:
