Skyrim HD Tex Pack - Increased Lag?

Anyone else install the HD Tex pack today and find that it slowly their game a lot?

I've got a Win 7 x64 rig w/ 4 GIG Ram and a GTX 460. Aging Wolfsdale 8400. Use a metric crap ton of HD text packs to replace...well, everything, and since 1.4 it runs pretty smooth (even before, w/ FPS Boost + SkyBoost/TESV Accelerator Layer). I had to disable the official HD esps tho' cuz of the lag I experienced.

I got a little jerk and lag here and there, but I'm running the Skyrim wars mod and it throws a lot of AI threads into the mix. I take the biggest hit with effects, so I may have to go with the loose file method if I want to use the texture packs.

Thanks for both of your feedbacks on the matter! I am also using War in Skyrim, though it doesn't slow me down....except when I fast travel to an area and there happens to be warring mobs right there.

I'm also using lots of mods, but not War in Skyrim. Anyhow I also noticed strange lags from time to time, not fps drops. Maybe they are caused by slower loading of textures. I have the vram full (gtx570) but it was the same even before installing this... don't know if it is normal.

I noticed, after playing for a while, a massive slowdown that would take place upon zoning. A quicksave (which wasn't quick - the whole game was slowed down), exit and restart, and it was fine again. This happens usually after I get back from a dungeon or something and have been busy doing a lot of back and forth, smithing, enchanting, selling, alchemy, etc etc... basically using and viewing a lot of items, so I think it may be some sort of memory leak.

I'm using a GTX570 SC with 1.2gb, 6 GB of system RAM on my Core i7 920.

Oh, side note... I got rid of a few "hitches" that I've noticed since the HD pack (zoning into Honeyside, for one) by turning off AA in the main options menu, but leaving FXAA on. Still looks great; I wonder why Geforce.com didn't recommend turning off AA in the main Skyrim Options window...

OP, I have almost the same setup as you (E8400, a 1 gb gtx 460, 4 gb ram, but vista instead of 7) and I also had issues with the bethesda textures. It would work fine sometimes but occasionally when loading places like whiterun or windhelm it would slow to a crawl; other times it would work fine in those areas. I've been using realistic water textures, enhanced night sky, skyrim hd lite, improved npc clothing, and realistic smoke and embers, and those all work great, especially with the 1.4 patch. Adding the official texture pack is definitely what causes issues, and while I expected to have some issues due to the older processor, it still is rather disappointing to have performance this bad given the incredibly minor improvement in the textures. For me, it just isn't worth the slowdown it causes, so I went back to the vanilla textures with the unofficial textures mods i already had. At some point I might try extracting some of the more noticeable official textures with bsa unpacker and putting them in my data folder manually, but i'm probably better off just waiting for more unofficial mods that improve the stuff i'm looking for.

Same problem here. (E8400, Radeon HD5870, windows 7 64-bit 4GB RAM) I am using the official hd textures obviously. After loading a new save the game works fine but occasionaly, most often after zoning from a house for instance it starts to lag/freeze horribly like it is loading the textures. Weird thing is that when I am not moving the mouse it doesn't seem to freeze. Sometimes it happens when I am exploring the city- this fact may be quite misleading cause there isn't that many textures to load. Hope someone will find a solution for this problem.
