ub3rman123
In the CK, I'm trying to use the heightmap editor to get started on my worldspace. Here's what I've found: When I wave the cursor around a large area altering heights, then attempt to save, it just crashes to desktop. When I only alter areas that are in cells that have been generated by hand-changing then save, it gives me a series of 'Waiting' error messages and then just closes out. Am I doing something wrong here?

ub3rman123
Oh, good to see that's up. Wasn't when I checked earlier. Thanks! Edit: I've looked through the article, but nothing is mentioned of the crash nor what can be done to prevent it/proper loading techniques for a heightmap. There is, however, a similar question on the discussion page.
ub3rman123
Okay, so apparently the Creation Kit's heighmap editor IS broken, and my options are to work by hand or make the heightmap via a grayscale image. The latter sounds easier so I'll attempt that.
Fatalmasterpiece
Ub3r do you have a link to a tut or thread on heightmapping via greyscale, would appreciate it.
ub3rman123
If there is a good one, I haven't found it. For now I'm doing it by hand with very large landscape brushes.
Fatalmasterpiece
On the bright side your maps will have a very 'handcrafted' feel to them lol
Vagrant0
If there is a good one, I haven't found it. For now I'm doing it by hand with very large landscape brushes.Do basic outline in a paint program, grayscale. Load up a 3d graphics program that allows creation of point grids. Work on one quad at a time using the image as a deform map for the point grid, adjust the points more to have the desired contours, render the 3d map as a 2d grayscale heightmap. Import into game. Really though, regardless of the method, you'll end up having to adjust the terrain by hand in the CK. The most you can hope to do with the heightmap editor is just get a basic shape made. That's kinda just how it is given how it isn't easy to judge heights in relation to placed statics in the heightmap editor.
ub3rman123
I've gone ahead and just made the whole thing by hand. If your computer can handle it, set UGridstoload to 30 or more and use a brush size of 25, makes it an easy job.
