NWelf
I experienced this same problem a while ago. Sudden crashes at initializing windows, and no amount of verifying the integrity of the game cache could fix it. Re-installing couldn't fix it. The fix came from a rather unexpected angle - the firewall from my antivirus (a silly Dutch brand). I disabled the firewall, and voila! The creation kit started up like it normally should. It also allowed me to open two simultaneous screens in NifSkope as well.So try to disable your antivirus' firewall (temporarily, of course), or add an exception for the creation kit (although that didn't work for me, I had to install a new one). I don't know how or why my firewall did this, and I don't care to know either. All I can say is that it fixed it for me. am having a similar problem with the CK since the 1.8 patch came out. Whenever I load a .esp file thats dependent on update.esm ( or even just loading up skyrim.esm and update.esm to start a new mod) It says Update.esm is a higher version than this .exe can load, I click yes to all, then it says it cant find masterfile update.esm, and then CTD's. Only noticed it today when I was trying to load up a mod I was working on. Anybody have any ideas as to how to fix this??? EDIT: Well reinstalling the CK seems to have fixed it. Cross your fingers :ohdear: Edited November 5, 2012 by NWelf
D3ATHKeeper
Hello there I found a fix for the CK Initializing Windows Crash!! You just have to replace the old steam_api.dll with the one from the link ;) www.mediafire.com/?1l0a9tn53kvirt9 Remember to exit steam, if you have steam on with this file the CK will still crash!! DocterPain
Most likely a corrupted file, do a fresh install. If that still doesn't work. Download the DLL File here and replace the current one.http://www.mediafire.com/?1l0a9tn53kvirt9 Back up your current one just in case. Thank you Thank you thank you! Worked like a Charm! kokoilie
none of the solutions above helped me but i noticed that when i copied "skyrim - meshes.bsa" in the data folder of the CK from skyrim it stoped saying that it can't find some files... makes me wonder if it matters where i install the CK anyway if i have skyrim version 1.1 and don't know how to update it do i even have to bother with this kit? wolf6541
what fixed it for me was downloading the version of the creation kit for the current updated version of skyrim.. mine being 1.5 .. hope it worksª!Thanks! It worked just fine. I had Skyrim 1.8.151 and the CK wasn't matching so I've downloaded the 1.8.151 one.
ONEOFHAM
I didn't bother reading all the comments so I f this has already been said sorry for restating it, But I fixed this issue for myself.I had a different version of the creation kit than I did the Update, so I re-downloaded the creation kit and update to the current version (13), and then everything worked dandy. I also copied and pasted someones solution from the steam forums as I had never seen that fix described anywhere else, so if my solution didn't do ti for you, there you go. "I just had this problem, and as it turns out it was a simple fix at least for me. if your SkyrimEditor.ini file in your main install folder, I changed the line bForce1XShaders=0 to bForce1XShaders=1, this allows cards without certain shaders to usually run. I REALLY hope this works for you guys." - GenuineSounds, steam user
Anduniel
Anyone still having this problem? My CK and Skyrim both worked perfectly yesterday. Today both crash immediately when I try to start up: "Creation kit has stopped working." The only difference between today and yesterday is that both my video card and my backup power supply blew out together. Got new power supply and new, better video card, but now same result, crash on startup. Verifying files no help. Now trying a reinstall of each.
