Nothing Makes Sense, So Here I Am!

Basically, I am very new to modding for Dragon Age, and somewhat new to modding in general. I have read several different threads here on nexus, as well as the "Dragon Age Modding for Dummies" page, and nothing made sense to me. I should note here that I have a very hard time understanding things unless it's explained to me in very explicit detail, and that's probably why nothing I've read has made sense to me. I should also state that my computer uses Windows 10, and that I play DAO through steam's Dragon Age Ultimate Edition.

I copied several unzipped mod folders to my ...\Bioware\Dragon Age\packages\core\override file, as per the directions on the mods. With the exception of a couple mods, all of them are cosmetic mods (ie. one that makes colors more vibrant, one that makes elves look more like DA2 elves, etc). I also have the Skip the Fade mod and the Shortcut Through the Deep Roads mod, if that makes any difference.

When I opened up the game, I saw no difference in the color schemes or in my elvish Warden's face. I have read that to change your Warden's face, you need to do something with a toolkit, but I have no idea what that is, or how to get it. I have attempted to use both DAModder and the recommended DAO Modmanager applications to help run the mods. DAModder works fine on my computer, but whenever I attempt to place files in it, it says that they cannot be read. I know that it prefers dazip files, but my computer will not allow me to open dazip files, let alone move them into DAModder. The DAO Modmanager made sense to me. Unfortunately, when I went to open it, it stated that multiple things involved with the running of it were "broken". Still, it popped up, and I tried to place a file into the override creator. It worked up until I tried to save it to the program. When I did this, it told me that there was something wrong with the file, and so it would not be able to save it correctly. Not wanting my game to become corrupted, I didn't save the file, and I ended up removing the Modmanager from my computer.

Does anyone have any advice with regards to my issues with modding, or clearer instructions on how to get the mods saved in override to work? Thank you so much in advance, and I apologize for the lengthy explanation of my situation.

Kay, I double checked, and it specifically said that part of the path could not be found, when attempting to run DAO Modmanager. I hope this extra bit of info helps.

Cosmetic and hair mods are a little different than most mods in that they require you to edit the chargenmorphcfg.xml file to work in the game. There should be a copy of the particular mods chargenmorphcfg.xml file included in the mod package that lists the mod's resources in it. all you have to do is copy and paste it into your existing chargenmorphcfg.xml. if you don't have one, which you don't usually on a vanilla game, then you can simply use the modder's that is included in the mod. if, however, you have dozens of cosmetic mods, you need to choose one to be your default chargenmorphcfg.xml and add all the entries in the other mods to that one file. you can only have one chargenmorphcfg.xml. There is a tool here http://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/971/? that will do it for you. I'm not really certain how it works tho because I don't use it.

I should have noted here that if you edit the file yourself you need to use a text editor like notepad to do it.

I'm not sure I get what you're saying about your computer not letting you open dazips and not letting you "move" a file to DAModder. With DAModder, you open it, click on the install a mod button and then find the file. I'm using win10 and it works fine with me. It does default to show zip files, but you can change that to show dazips. And there is also the DA Updater that comes with the game that installs dazips. It's located here in windows 10 C:\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age\bin_ship (that may not be the case with steam tho).

I'm extremely bad at wording, so I must apologize for that. Of the like... three cosmetic mods that I have, two require PT's Vibrant Colors mods, and the other is Vibrant Colors, and I'm pretty sure they all use the chargenmorphcfg.xml from it. I'm not certain though. Apparently, several is equal to six mods total to my exhausted brain.

As for the dazips, I have been putting the files on my computer as plain old zips, as I couldn't figure them out before I got DAModder. I probably should just remove all of the files from my override and then redownload them as dazips so DAModder can install them.

I probably should not have started trying to mod a big and touchy game like DAO when my modding experience is all on smaller games, I will admit.

Thank you so much for responding, as well as for providing the link to the chargenmorph compiler! I hope that you have a lovely day.
