anstar1010
Hey, I've created a new item in the Creation kit called "Dalton's Blade", After some fiddling I found out how to get the texture files out of the bsa archives and where it finds out what textures to use for the item, so I used The TR Retexturing Tool I found somewhere to change the textures that the model uses, I realize this tool is meant for oblivion but it seems to work fine on Skyrim .nifs and I can't find any other way to change it. From the steelsword.dds to a custom DaltonsBlade.dds I made, I did a scabbard as well to replace the steel sword one, now when I try and look at it ingame, when the sword is just lying on the ground it looks fine, but when I look at it in my inventory or while it's equipped third or first person, it just has all the default steel sword textures. I'd like to find out what I've done wrong so if anybody could help it'd be much appreciated. Thank you ~Anstar Edited February 9, 2012 by anstar1010
anstar1010
No one know what the problem is?
cire992
The game uses a separate model for inventory items, you'll need to change that as well to use your new texture.
MikelStrav
I'm having a... somewhat similar problem... here's the deal. I started by creating a set of armor identical to Nightingale armor in every way, except I altered the stats. So now I want to retexture it, so I grabbed all the textures and meshes, told the meshes to use my new edited textures, renamed them all properly, and they are connected. I can open attunementchestf_0.nif (and all those other nifs) and the creation kit shows what I want to see (being the nightingale mesh with my textures), so I know I've connected it properly. Now... I can't get the in-editor items to use those meshes. In the "Models" box where "NightingaleCuirassAA" was before, I can't figure out how to make MY new model show up there, for selection. I'm missing one step, connecting the in-game item to the (for all intents and purposes, what is a brand new...) mesh!
cire992
^ An easier way to do that without having to duplicate the meshes is to use a texture set in the CK. Look it up on the wiki, should save you a lot of time in the future.
anstar1010
Well I've never tried doing armour before so I don't know. Saw your mod in the workshop by the way. When I look at my weapon in the editor preview window thing it shows it with my textures as well... I the Armor Addon things, I think, define where the item goes and other items in it's set and what race it's meant for and things like that, I'm not sure that actually defines the actual model. Have you read these: http://www.creationkit.com/ArmorAddon http://www.creationkit.com/Armor ?
MikelStrav
Wow, that sounded wonderful, till I got to Step 6, and there was no "Male Biped Model" label with an edit button next to it... That was at cire, I'm trying out the other way right now... Well, I got it to work. In the midst of fumbling my way around that walkthrough, I made the connection between "AA" and "ArmorAddon". Assigned my mesh/texture combo to a new AA, and then called it, voila. However, when I tried the easy way, making a TextureSet, and simply calling it in a duplicate (without a new mesh), I simply wound up wearing the original texture. So, thanks for prodding me in the right direction, and I hope I get this retexturing done soon! Edited February 10, 2012 by Mikel_S
