Xenobuzz
Hey, all! I have Fallout 3 with all the DLC's, G4WL, Archive Invalidation Invalidated, and LOTS of mod and texture enhancements that I'd like to move to a newer, more powerful system. My older PC was a dual core with Vista. My new PC is a quad core with Windows 7. I don't care if I lose my save games (although I'd prefer not to) but if that's necessary, c'est la vie. I thought I could do it myself, but it didn't work. I tried installing the vanilla version and then copying the modded version over that. When that didn't work I dl'd the latest G4WL and ran that and got another error. I can't run the game right now as it crashes on startup (because of some other mistake I made that I can't even recall) now so it seems best to start over. I'm sure that some of you have dealt with this situation after a hardware/software upgrade, and I was wondering if some kind and technically minded soul could lay out the steps for me. Keep in mind that I zero experience with this kind of stuff, and I will not assume certain steps so list EVERYTHING. I have a 64 GB thumb drive with my entire Fallout 3 folder from the older PC all set to copy from. Thanks! Dave S.
Fonger
did you try playing the game on the new computer before you tried moving the old version over (to make certain your new hardware can actually play it) BTW your game saves are not stored in the directory you copied look under --> my documents - my games - fallout3

Thanks for the tip about the saved games! I know it can run as I installed the vanilla version and it ran fine. Although, I quite before the opening movie was finished. Dave S. I looked at my Load Order and had unwittingly checked a few mods that I hadn't dowloaded. Successfully copied my save games as well. However, I have a new texture issue. When I loaded my last save game from the old system, I got the message that some objects may be missing. I'll have to compare my new Load Order with my old one, but just in case somebody knows the answer to this question: I encountered a Sentry Robot that was all light blue in color. I can't post a screenshot yet as I don't have my FTP program up and running yet. What errors would result in a light blue Sentry Robot? Fonger
"blue" is not the color of a missing texture its the color of a changed texture
Xenobuzz
"blue" is not the color of a missing texture its the color of a changed texture I never changed the texture of the Sentry Bots with a mod other than NMC's texture pack (if that, in fact, does alter the texture of Sentry Bots). After exploring a bit more in the LOB Headquarters (which is where my last save game was) I noticed that the Books Debunked mod was no longer working, and the bathroom graffiti mod was displaying random textures. I guess copying the entire Fallout 3 folder was not sufficient. It seems pretty clear that I'm going to have start from scratch, and that's really frustrating and depressing for me. Why is it always such a huge f***ing chore just to move a game from one PC to another? It took me 3-4 days just browse through the Models & Textures files at Fallout3Nexus.com. I really don't want to have to do that again, but I cannot conjure how I can fix the current issues. Plus, I cannot find the Download list on my old PC to tell me which mods and textures I chose. f***. MY. LIFE. Dave
