stormwarrior
Hello dear awesome people. I've always been interested in creating my own world space with the Oblivion engine but I never really got around to it because my computer would always crash when I was working with the CS heightmap editor earlier...So I'm just wondering, if you want to create a world more than what is shown in the heightmap editor (is that one quad?), do you have to use photoshop to crop the separate heightmaps together afterwards? And do you have to spend hours fixing leaks and other errors?I'm very willing to do that, but is it really as complicated as one would think to get a world approximately the size of Skyrim, seeing as I have little to no knowledge of cropping together heightmaps in photoshop? Just need someone experienced to give me tips here. Thanks in advance! P.S: If it seems like I'm complaining about having to work a lot with a world, know that I'm not complaining. I would be willing to spend all the required time in order to get the world's landscape up and running.
GomuGomu64
Just so you know, the heightmap editor is bugged. It will always crash no matter what you do. But about the photoshop bit...Gah, I don't know. I'm just using the typical landscape editor. Works fer me :P

Isn't that a real drag to use when you want to create bigger world spaces? I mean, unless you want to spend 1000 years doing it
GomuGomu64
Meh. People exaggerate. Or suck at right clicking and left click-dragg-ing :P I've just finished the terrain for my worldspace, I'll be adding trees, and will upload it if you want to take a gander at what can be done with the landscape editor. That'd be pretty awesome, care to PM me when you're done? Would love to playtest
PaladinRider
It's really not that bad to make the terrain by hand. You need to partition the work and progress piece-by-piece. Don't overwork yourself in many cases you will have to limit the size of the worldspace to be reasonable. A little trick - to make your world seem much bigger than it is, add in extreme heights, so mountains and valleys and such, it will take the player longer to travel and give the illusion of a larger worldspace.
