Alithinos
So I thought it would be a good idea to download the official texture pack... Only that it's going to take many hours until its fully downloaded, and until downloading ends I can't play Battlefield 3 or even watch videos on Youtube because web browsing becomes too slow, and game ping goes like 259.So what can I do these hours to let time pass ?Play Skyrim! But I made a mistake...Because I didn't knew that Steam was so ridiculous it wouldn't let me play a game I own at the same time I download something from the internet...So I can't play Skyrim as long as Steam is downloading the pack.Well what I thought then was "OK lets cancel this download",but BOOM!!! Steam surprizes once more by not having a "CANCEL" button anywhere...So I pressed the pause button and the download stopped, but when then I clicked "PLAY" it didn't let me play but resumed downloading again, and I can't play the game I paid money for!!! :wallbash: What's the point of this ? Why on Earth did they make it work like this ? It doesn't make sense.HELP. If you know any hacks/commands to make steam to stop downloading this texture pack I'd be gratefull. update: Oh and it (Steam) just crashed randomly... Edited February 10, 2012 by Alithinos
Stegdon
I had this problem expect with me it wasn't a matter of speed, but of size. I have limited internet usage(9Gb a month) which I have to share with some of my family. I clicked to download the official HD pack just to see how big it was. Shocked to find it 4Gbs big I immediately searched for a cancel button as you did, but alas! None was to be found! After a few hours googling for an answer I came up with nothing. In the end I contacted Steam and asked them to cancel the download for me, which they did... about a week later.
scot
You have to finnish the download, I was also surprise that there was no cancel or uninstall button, it took hours to download mine and a few days later my game was crashing and I validated skyrim data and guess what, steam downloaded the DLC pack again even though I had it installed -.- so if your game has problems someday and you need to validate to see if it fixes be ready for the texture pack download... Georgiegril
This is something to be posted on steam. Not that you will get better answers there, but maybe it will somehow be registered with their powers that be.
PsxMeUP
Actually these horror stories should be posted everywhere, not just on Steam where Steam users congregate. The more people are afraid of Steam, the more it will hit their bottom dollar. That's the only way to make them design a decent application.
