stebbinsd
If you're using a mod that increases the maximum population for your settlements, you'll probably find that it's virtually impossible to find jobs for all of them to do! The only way to have 500 settlers without unemployment is to create literally hundreds of shops. I don't feel comfortable assigning more than 50 of my settlers to guard duty ... because you should never need more than 10% of your population as cops. We're not trying to instill martial law, here; we're trying to do the exact opposite. I considered assigning caravans in groups of 5 to every other settlement to give them increased ability to fight off raiders and stuff. That would give me 190 provisioners for each settlement, which would cut back significantly on the unemployment levels. The problem is that, in order to assign a trade route, I have to control a settlement first, meaning I can't pack my settlements full of people at the outset. Here's an idea: Create additional shops. In addition to the stands that you can create, also create larger stores that take up more space (basically the equivalent of a small shack). However, to effectively run these stores, we need to have FIVE settlers assigned to each store, instead of just one. A manager and his four employees! One guy could be working the counter. The others are sweeping the floor and stuff. Maybe you could even assign night shifts for double the settlers! Also, if I have automatron, give me the ability to assign settlers to oversee the manufacturing things I create. Also, since I can create doors that resemble jail cells, how about assigning a couple guys as jailors?
mkr1977
How do you manage to have over 50 settlers, and still be able to properly assign them to jobs? Usually assignments take forever to happen, if at all.

Okay, unless I am doing something " wrong " - the VT Overseer Terminal does * NOT * work in Settlements. 1 - I have 2 new Settlers at Sanctuary.2 - I planted Wheat for 1 and Corn for the other. ... I confirmed twice that they were not " automatically or other wise assigned ". 3 - Went to Terminal and it did not see the new settlers or the Wheat or Corn to be cared for. 4 - Left Settlement and came back * next day * - Wheat - Corn still not ' assigned ' and the new Settlers were still " RED " - aka - Unassigned. 5 - OS-Terminal still did * NOT * see the jobs or the Settlers. Sounds like you're doing something wrong, I usually use it when I have 10-ish settlers with no issues. That's the only way I manage to assign anyway after the first 4-5. Anyone after the first 10 or so will basically be auto-assigned to food or assigned when they walk past me while I'm in workshop mode so I notice them. >_> It is kind of buggy though. Especially if you have more than 15 settlers. I had 17 in Taffington Boathouse, if I tried to use the terminal to assign people it unassigned _everyone_ in the settlement and I had to try to manually go back and reassign everyone... no one wanted to auto assign to food even. It usually works as soon as I plop it down and give it power too. But sometimes I have to plop it down, scrap/store in workshop and rebuild/replace in a different spot for it to work. Not sure if it's a radius thing or if it's just that buggy. Too tired/lazy to open CK to check right now... Edit: And sorry for bringing the topic completely off there. In regards to more settler jobs, I really recommend Busy Settlers: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7010/ by Despy. That one adds 18 new workstations that only NPCs can use. Including kitchen, chem stations etc. I think they all count as scavenging stations, but have unique animations for each place. The cooking stove has the npc chopping meat, the chem stations have them mixing liquids and so on. Edit 2: Apparently Busy Settlers also adds 86 "animation rugs" that I've never noticed... shows how much attention I'm paying. :P Not sure if they can be assigned as well, but if they can, that's over 100 new places for people to go, should be enough (even though 18 new stations seems more than enough to me :) ). AuroraMoon
you should use the Northland diggers mod. it adds new jobs like managing mail, banks, butcher store, etc.... perfect if you want your settlement to feel like it's returning to a pre-war civilizationhttp://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9710/? It also adds new workbenches specifically for creating new resources... like turning scrap metal into screws, etc.
montky
indeed! I hear you Stebbinsd.its a sidegame that really accentuates the Sims-ness or Sid Meier-ness side to Fallout, and really adds to the micromanaging RTS gameplay and FORPGness. Despy's mod is phluppin awesome. integrates well with GreekRage and Elianora's stuff too.Northland and Despys mods don't play well together though,so its a one or the other unfortunately at the moment. Unemployment? in the wasteland?surely such a thing only exists in The Institute or New Vegas... a lot of mods are in the pipeline, and I'm really hoping they become interoperableor are made interoperable at some point... we will need to have a massive overhaul at some point, especially if we want all NPC's to have SPECIAL,and to be quest-givers etc... that's where you can haveBooks, Bartenders, Mail-runners,Hoteliers, Hospital (think Fallout-y MASH), Regulators,Garbagemen, wandering minstrels etclocal city-state protectors, eldermen, scientists, plumbers,butchers/food producers (in addition to the existing Mr Handys and Farmers etc)Repairers, Scrapsters, Priests etc and then the 'seedy callings"like, with Gigolos and Strumpets,crimelords/gangs, 'activists""politicians" (that's a wastelander joke, a term for con-artists,who tend to have read too many "lying congressional style" in their travels) etc. the UnderBoston project was looking to add a lot more ofthe FORPG elements.it's an ambitious project that is forming, and it really needs a team update thread.essentially, they wanted that to be interoperable with a whole heap of other mods.notably, Red Rocket Settlements,Enclave Returns, and the futureAGI "talking heads" mod, as well as "Karma System returns".not to mention, Books School of the Wastelandand the Bounty Board projects... thats right, more quests and things to do,besides fetch-quests and point-and-click events. I haven't tested it yet - does it make settlers assigned to their stations 24/7 or they go to sleep like usual? I found some other mod though: Housekeeping - Scavenging Deluxe. Pretty sure it works exactly like the scavenging station in that regard. (Only with less walking around and pointing guns everywhere. :P )
