Tutorial: Editing the horse mesh

Hello Akari,

are you using the 32 or 64 Bit Version of 3D Studio Max?

It seems (at least on my system) that the plugin only gets installed to the 64 Bit Version, even if I select 32 Bit in the installer of the NIF plugin.

By the way:

Hello reelo,

for the 3DS textures

1. Try copying the texture path into the horse mesh path additionally like this:

Data\meshes\actors\horse\character assets\textures\actors\horse

2. Is the render mode in your perspective window in 3DS set to "Realistic"?

3. If that doesn't solve it, try opening the material editor in 3DS (shortcut M).

There is a button to show the material texture in the perspective window (don't know how it's name is and can't look it up right now).

For the bones:

Did you touch the skin modifier of a mesh?

Click on it, the bones should be listed there. The four meshes of the horse.nif have individual bones attached to them.

Try importing the original horse.nif into an empty stage and immediately export, does that work?

Best regards,

Gary

The new directory path does not seem to work either xD At first i thought there might be a typo somewhere, but then remembered that the folders were generated by BSA. Also i cant find that button u mentioned either :/

And 3DsMax 7 kept crashing after 1 minute after importing the horse.nif, when i worked with other models i had its working fine though.

And Gmax crashes when i tried to select its BSDdismember skin modifier...

I'm a n00b at this, so maybe its just something wrong with my PC :0

Hello reelo,

in 3D Studio Max 2012, the button is here (click image):

I don't know if it's there in 7 already, I have no experience with 3DS before version 2010

By the way, 3DS is also crashing on my system with the horse.nif and selecting BSDismemberSkin and Unwrap UVW after each other, I don't think thats a system specific problem, but has to do something with the importer/NIF-File.

Maybe you can download the 2012 trial and install it in a Virtual Machine (VMWare player) so that the trial doesn't mess up your registry and check if it's loading there properly?

I did so with 3DS 2010 and 2011 (2010 together with 2012 is messing some stuff up) to check if a problem occured everywhere.

Best regards,

Gary
