Mizana
I just got into modding a few days ago, but I pick up things fast. However, there's a certain problem I have just not been able to figure out. There are some mods I get and activate with the Mod Manager from Nexus, then I go into the game and they're still not applying. One example would be http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=8852 Stormcloak armor to Ancient Nord.Another would be http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=8978#content Armored SabreCat Mount.I recently uninstalled everything Skyrim on my computer and re-installed it in C:\Games (My OS is Windows 7) on the information that mods that do more than replace textures don't work because of a limiter that applies to the Program Files directory. Since it's still not working, and I have no idea why now, I've come to ask here.I have tried downloading mods that didn't work previously WITH NMM and downloading them manually and putting them in the NMM folder myself. I haven't tried manually installing them myself yet with Skyrim in C:\Games yet, but I have a feeling that won't work either again. I would really appreciate any insight that can be given on this matter. Edited February 13, 2012 by Mizana
Rabbit1251
Also, my game is not a Steam version. I prefer to use disks and don't like Steam so I didn't get it. Your game still needs to be installed in the Steam directory to work properly regardless if it's the DVD or the Steam download version. MShoap13
If plugins won't stay activated, or simply fail to work after activating them, first make sure the plugins.txt (and DLClist.txt) files, under the \Skyrim\ folder located at C:\Documents and Settings\(User Name)\Local Settings\Application Data\ on XP or C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Local\ on Vista/7 are writable by opening their properties and unchecking the tick mark box for "read only". Then go back into NMM and reactivate them. If they still won't work you may have a UAC issue. Some people have issues where the mod will properly appear in plugins.txt after activating it through NMM but then as soon as they launch Skyrim, it disappears again. I've yet to find the cause for this as I don't experience it, but making plugins.txt read only again after activating plugins via NMM will prevent Skyrim from removing them and they should work. Unfortunately, you'll have to make it writable, activate plugin(s), then make it read only again every time you add another plugin in the future. RobertHowsham
This looks as if it relates to my problem, (see "Misbehaving Mods" topic created 12-02-2012).Since making that post I have found that the armours display, as modified, in the CK character preview when set as NPC default outfits but not ingame. Also the problen mods do'nt use esm files.
Mizana
Thank you so much for the information! However, after much searching, I still have not been able to find a Solution. Can anyone help out with that...?
MShoap13
Step 1) Make sure plugins.txt is writable.Step 2) Activate a plugin via NMM and then open plugins.txt to see if it was added.Step 3) Close plugins.txt and launch Skyrim.Step 4) Before you load a save or anything, alt+tab out of Skyrim and reopen plugins.txt to see if the plugin is still listed. If your plugin is listed after Step 4, it should be working as intended. If your plugin is no longer listed, then you need to make plugins.txt read only again after activating plugins via NMM, but before launching Skyrim.
