csmith133
Hey there I'm very new to both modding and this site and I wanted to throw an idea I had out there. A massive library maintained by priests who consider books a sacred thing. Within the library is nearly every book in skyrim. The skill books are heavily guarded by the priests and re purposed dwemer centurions behind locked doors with each out of bounds door containing books for a certain skill only. This means there will be 18 locked and guarded doors besides the main atrium housing all the books besides skill books. To gain access to each skill room you will need to complete the designated quest which will have a direct correlation to that skill. This library will of course be huge and will need an inn section and many NPC's to fill it. Just an idea though. Thoughts?
phaota
How about adding in the ability to donate collected journals the player obtains during quests and such. That way, the library would have all available written material in the game, not just the bound tomes.

Make it a certain gold per journal or letter that way the ones originally worth nothing that you give away to merchants are actually worth keeping around. So anyone want to help me make this? PikaNikz
I'm working with a team to create something similar to this. We're also including Fan Fiction books. The new book store will allow you to purchase any book, scroll, journal, note, or skill book. I've also been working on building a Printing Press that allows you to craft any book by using a Blank Library Book, some Ink, and a soul gem for the skill books. You can see a preview of it here. The Dwemer Printing Press is at the top and the book store is at the bottom. We're also making Skill Books readable. You'll be able to open them, read exactly what it does, then choose to activate the skill bonus if you want it.
neurojn
i saw many people like the college of winterhold as the location. maybe it'd be cool to NOT use the same room as the library but rather some kind of underground huge place with no people in i really, giving the essence of and old but yet uncomparebly 'wise' place. i think the imperial library fron oblivion (thieves guild final quest) would be a really good point of inspiration as for the general archtecture and aesthetics
yota71
Winterhold would be the best place You can even ask the permission to the one that add books to the dovhakin hideout, he is the first that had collected the fan fiction :)
wdrewjr
Hi. I've been thinking of a mod very similar to this since the game first came out. Nice to see that other are as well. As I'm not much of a modder myself, I'll simply let you know what my idea is and see if you are interested. This mod would center on the Bards. It would become available after you have finished all other available Bard quests. The head of the guild would send a messenger to you asking that you return to him for an important quest. Upon meeting with him you find out a secret about the Bards; not only are they the "dreamers, shapers, singers, makers", storytellers and entertainers of the world, but they also are the keepers and protectors of history. History is written by the victors, and with each new victor the past gets re-written or re-interpreted to the benefit of the new victor. The Bards protect against this loss of past knowledge by maintaining several secret libraries, containing all of the known books in the history of Tamriel. The Bards don't impose their interpretation of past events, they merely ensure that historians will have copies of the books from both before and after a regime change to consult and work out the truth. As the Civil War rages on in Skyrim the Bards realize that it is necessary to gather such a collection of books to preserve the truth, regardless of who eventually wins. A secret chamber has been constructed beneath the Bards College in Solitude, but it needs to be filled. And the head Bard has chosen you because you have shown yourself to not only be good and true Bard, but also an adventurer capable of withstanding the trials that you will face as you attempt to gather all of the books. When you ask why you've never heard of any of this before (bards are a talkitive lot) he explains that only the Headmaster of each College or guild is aware of this mission of the Bards, and due to the crisis of the Skyrim Civil War he has had to risk telling you and involving you in what really should have been his mission (he put it off too long). The quest involves you collecting from all over Skyrim 1 of each book in existence (journals as well) and bringing them back to the secret library under the Bards College. A book that serves as a checklist is in your inventory so that you know what you have already brought to the college and what you still need to bring. How you acquire them is up to you. The quest ends when you have found and returned all of the books to the secret library. When you have done this you then find out that the Headmaster has died in his sleep (old age or murder?), and his last act had been to inform the others that you are the new Headmaster of the Bards College. WBGrock
Actually my suggestion would be use Dwemer Ruin style instead of the others, but that's just me
