Mod Installation Problem

I've been playing Fallout 4 for quite a while and think it's time to start using some of the fabulous mods that I find to be available especially here at Nexus.

On looking into how it all works I found out that a lot of mods depend on F4SE in order to work, so I read and watched the descriptions and tutorials about how to install F4SE and mods in general, here:

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9424/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Ffallout4%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D9424%26preview%3D&pUp=1

It all seemed pretty straight forward and I followed directions opening my E drive (which is where all my downloaded games are placed) through:

Data (E:)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\ ...

There I should be able to see Fallout 4 somewhere on the list of games I have installed. But the game simply isn't there! I tried looking for hidden files but this led nowhere. I simply cannot find the folder.

I tried using a different technique to find the game, I went to my Steam Library, right clicked Fallout 4, clicked Properties, and there it was exactly at the place where the tutorial said it should be. Yet, when I follow the actual path on my computer the game doesn't show.

One question I now has is if I can install F4SE and other mods by opening the game's location via my Steam Library? ... None of the tutorials mention this possibility so my guess is that I can't and that leaves me with only one option:

I have to ask for help or advice about how I can find my game.

One more thing. Since I couldn't find the game at the place it should be at, I made a backup copy of the game via Steam but placed them in the Backup folder. I didn't want to risk placing them in the Steamapps\Common folder in part because I'm not sure if the game really isn't there and I just can't see it for some reason and whether having two copies might cause problems. Would copying or replacing the backup files of the game into the correct location (at Data (E:)\Steam\Steamapps\common) be an option?

These are my questions and issues so I will leave it at this and ask if my fellow gamers can help me solve this issue?

Thanks in advance.

..........

P.S. Forgive me my clumsy wording, I am new to this and not really computer savvy.

Got a Fallout 4 shortcut on your desktop? Right-click it, select Properties and look at Target: to find the file path. Or open File Explorer (generally the first icon at the bottom of your screen, next to the Windows Start Menu) and in the Search bar (text field at the top-right) type Fallout4Launcher.exe and search. That will also show you the folder of where it's installed.

Sounds like it installed somewhere else, especially if the game runs as normal.

H4RDC0R3V1B3Z,

Thanks a lot for your advice.

Let me first say that I am quite sure that the game has been installed in that folder although I can't say if it still is. The reason I'm so sure is that when I tried to follow the directions in the video the first time around, I did find Fallout 4 on the list in that folder....However, according to the video I was supposed to find two different folders under the main Fallout 4 folder, but when I opened it I found a long list of different sub folders and I couldn't see the two mentioned in the video, so I thought perhaps they were hidden and tagged the 'hidden items' box which didn't make anything show, instead it made the whole game disappear and since then nothing I've tried has made it become visible again (I've even had Microsoft tech support try and help me but they couldn't find it either).

Also, when I look under Properties in the Steam Fallout folder it figures as being installed in the location I've described above in my opening post. - I guess I should have explained this from the beginning, I'm sorry if it has made the whole thing appear more confusing than it is.

..........

Now after reading your post I tried to do the things you suggested, but...

There is no File Explorer icon on my bottom tool bar (I have Win 10 and it started out by showing apps icons to various online stores and features they want you to use, so I've pretty much removed everything and placed the things I use on a daily basis instead. But File Explorer was never there).

So I tried to find it using 'Search Windows' (the search bar in the Start Menu at the bottom left corner) and typed Fallout4Launcher.exe in the search bar/text field at the top right when it appeared. It came up with no results.

I also tried right clicking the Fallout 4 shortcut and choose properties, but there is nothing named 'Target' in the menu that comes up. There's a General tab, Web Document, Security, Details, Previous Versions, and there are some options under each of these including an Advanced options at Security. I've looked at it all and nowhere is there anything called Target.

I then tried simply writing Fallout4Launcher.exe in the search bar from the beginning instead of first finding File Explorer, of course this didn't lead anywhere.

..........

I finally tried right clicking the game icon in my Steam library as I'd done previously and just like before it shows the game to be located at:

E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4

I.O.W. exactly where it's supposed to be.

It would be awesome if I could just use the window that comes up when I search for the game via my Steam library, but since not a single tutorial I've read or watched mentions this as a possibility I have to assume it won't work to do it that way.

..........

Anyway, thanks again for your reply, I really appreciate it. - And you gave me some good suggestions which would probably have worked if my computer was set up a bit differently.
