Creation Kit?!

Recommended Posts

Just thought I would give a little advice. This is aimed at those that are new to the CK. Be very careful in what you delete. Make backups and backup of backups when working in the CK(especially in cleaning a settlement). I was working on Jamaica Plain and somehow deleted one of the build triggers, for those that don't know what this is, it allows you to get into build mode and when you walk out of that area it kicks you out.

There are three of those build triggers in Jamaica plain and somehow I accidentally deleted on of them. I would click on the workshop and in 5 secs I was getting kicked out. I was getting pissed(at myself of course.) Luckily I remembered I had a backup,

So I can't stress this enough, and I know the Veterans of the CK will say the same thing. Make BACKUPS!!

I would hate for you to go through the time of cleaning an area only to realize that you deleted something you shouldn't have and then have to start it all over.

And something else I have found out, you seasoned with the Creation Kit correct me if I am wrong. But, lets say you are working on Jamaica Plain, make sure your character is not in that area when you go to work it. There was a couple of times that I did this and noticed things appearing and disappearing, and some items that just were not there that I did not delete. This last time I went to concord before I worked on Jamaica Plain, exited the game, went back in game, and so far no issues.

You can use FO4edit to remove deleted ref's from your mod. These deleted ref's such as the workshop trigger you deleted are called "DIRTY EDITS" and "NEVER DELETE ANY VANILLA REF"! If by chance you do want or need to get rid of an object or item set it to "Initially Disabled" and move it under ground. This way if another mod or even the vanilla game uses that ref it is still there.

Get a copy of FO4edit it will be your best friend if you continue to mod Bethesda games.

It is always best practice to test your mods form a clean save, which means a save from before you ever entered the location, started a quest you may be editing and so on.
