Despite my best attempts at troubleshooting I am unable to resolve this issue. The face is dark, it looks very tanned. The rest of the body from the back of the neck downwards looks as intended.

Dear community, I humble request for your help.

Sincerely,

Ori.

It's because the preset was saved with the mods to make her look that way.

Why LooksMenu character creators do their saves with mods slapped on their presets instead of saving with vanilla assets is beyond me.

To all creators who read this: DO A VANILLA ASSETS SAVE THEN LET THE DOWNLOADERS ADD THE STUFF LATER!

That alone would save much misery that I keep seeing on EVERY PRESET page.

I totally agree with what you said. I have a Nuka girl preset that no matter what I do her face is dark (missing normal or spec files).

But here is my theory: What exactly does Looksmenu save? I know it saves custom hair, I can read that in the file (opened with text editor). But does it save the actual skin textures? My observation shows that Looksmenu only saves the slider info for the face, body weight, hair, and the barrage of tattoo, makeup, and other decal skin textures. And I know, if you do not have the custom hair, Looksmenu just randomly gives you a Vanilla hair. So this means there are only 2 places that custom assets can mess up your preset: Skin color and Extra. So you can pick a vanilla skin color, and remove all Extra, that should save the preset?

Interesting note: You can install/copy new presets in the folder while the game is running, and it will show up the next time you open LooksMenu. No need to reload the game.

I found this out another way without having anything to do with LM. I had a hair mod installed on a save and for whatever reason I uninstalled it. When I went to load it up my toon was bald and I couldn't select any hair at all, the option never popped up. I reinstalled the mod and it was the same thing, nothing to select.

The only way I was able to fix it was to load up a earlier save with the enabled hair mod, then select a vanilla hair then uninstall the mod.

Luckily I save often...lol

You know you can also open the preset file with a text editor? I think the 2nd line is where the hair is. Open another preset, copy and paste the proper ID code over. It will point toward SOME hair ID in game.
