Interesting Bits of Lore?

Hi!

I am slowly working on a lore guide with information per location, race, perhaps some NPCs, word walls etc. so you can easily look up some stuff while playing. (I know it is something like the wiki, but hey....) I might make a mod out of it too.

I was looking for some interesting bits of lore. Perhaps you read something in a lorebook somewhere which you thought wa very interesting? Or heard some NPCs say something? I'd like to hear those :)

Yes, I am using the various Skyrim wikis as well. I am now busy with the locations, so I will get past most of those pages anyway.

Well, I was with Celebor yesterday, the snow elf. As a witnessing survivor I loved what he had to say about the falmer / Betrayed and the Dwemer. Too bad we don't see more of the snow elves in Skyrim.

I agree. I intended on adding a piece about the snow elves and the falmer. The Dwemer were quite horrible people, for all we know.

I read a book in Skyrim a while ago that mentioned an area in Skyrim called The Aalto. It's not there in the game but this quote should explain it:

Book "Warrior"

"In north-central Skyrim, there is an area called The Aalto, which is of unique geographical interest. It is a dormant volcanic valley surrounded on all sides by glaciers, so the earth is hot from the volcano, but the constant water drizzle and air is frigid. A grape called Jazbay grows there comfortably, and everywhere else in Tamriel it withers and dies. The strange vineyard is a privately owned, and the wine produced from it is thus rare and extremely expensive. It is said that the Emperor needs the permission of the Imperial Council to have a glass of it once a year."

My favorite piece of lore from Skyrim is when Arniel Gane tries to replicate what the dwemer did. He succeeds and is removed from Mundus.

Did the creators forget to add the Aalto? Or was it intended to be in game?

I wonder where Aalto would be. We do have the warm pools in Eastmarch.

I came across this on the wiki which makes much more sense to me now :

The Night of Tears is the name of the sacking of Saarthal by the Snow Elves. There are a variety of accounts as to why this happened. Some say the Snow Elves saw that the Nords, with their considerably shorter life expectancy, fast rates of physical maturation and expedient (by Elvish standards) reproductive cycle, would eventually overtake them if left unchecked.[5] Another theory suggests that the sacking of Saarthal was brought on by the Atmoran discovery of the Eye of Magnus beneath the city.[9] Other sources are less certain in their pronouncements, but also point to a very focused attack on locations that are not of strategic importance, lending weight to the theory that the Eye of Magnus, not the extermination of the Nords was the primary reason for the attack.[10] According to legend, only Ysgramor and his two sons were able to escape back to Atmora.[5][11]
