Cell Teleport Bug

Recommended Posts

Not sure what to even call this bug, but here is what happens: I enter a new cell and everything looks fine and then suddenly I am teleported back to the entrance that I entered the cell through (this only happens once everytime I change cell). I did a google search on it, but didn't find anything (probably cuz I don't know what to call this bug).

I doubt this problem is related to the mods I have installed as I have had the exact same mods installed before without the bug. I seem to recall having had this problem before, but cannot remember how I fixed it. I'd rather avoid reinstalling, so I am wondering whether or not someone knows of an actual fix.

That is definitely a new one (to me at least). As it appears no one has a ready answer, we need to determine if we can pin down the circumstances triggering it.

Can you reproduce it at will? What steps are needed to do that?

Does it happen in both interior and exterior cells?

Does this happen every time you enter a new cell, even when changing cells by running across the desert?

Does it happen only when you "fast travel"?

How soon does it occur when you switch cells? Immediately, or is there some delay?

Are you using the game's built-in "auto-save" feature? (This is known to cause problems, but not this one in particular.) Please see the 'Essentials for Getting Started' and 'Fourth Rule: Reloading "save game" files' sections of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article.

While you don't think it's related to your mod list, please give us the "load order" so we can see if anything jumps out as an issue. When you say "installed before" it implies that might have been a while back and you forgot some lesson from then.

Can you reproduce it at will? What steps are needed to do that? Since it happens everytime I change cell (through doors) I can reproduce it at will, yes.

Does it happen in both interior and exterior cells? Only when using doors.

Does this happen every time you enter a new cell, even when changing cells by running across the desert? As I already said, only happens when using doors.

Does it happen only when you "fast travel"? It never happens when fast travelling.

How soon does it occur when you switch cells? Immediately, or is there some delay? There is a few seconds delay, my guess would be about 5 seconds.

I am not using the built-in autosave, I only use CASM (non-mcm version) for saving.

If you really think the load-order is important here it is:

Nothing obviously wrong with that "load order". But it does provide a list of your mods, which we need.

As the game doesn't normally have this problem, the most likely cause is a mod. That it occurs approximately 5 seconds after you traverse a door suggests it is the result of a script ... most likely one affecting doors, but there are other possibilities. The implication of your statements is that it doesn't matter if you are going from an exterior cell to an interior one, or vice versa. (Correct me if I am wrong.)

So, as this happens every time you traverse a door, it happened as soon as you left Doc Mitchel's. (Please correct me if not. Conduct a test if you don't remember.) Therefor it is not a mod that only comes into play later, such as "Liberty Loft" or "Base building" or "FastSleepNV". Texture replacement mods do not generally have scripts. I use PN and the same HUD-UI-Menu mods without this issue, so we can at least initially rule them out.

That pretty much narrows it down to "Easy Unlocking", "Easy Hacking", and "FOV Slider". "FOV Slider affects a number "field of view" settings which might give an impression of movement, but from what you are saying it appears actual movement is happening. So my suggestion would be to try replacing the two plugins "Easy Unlocking" and "Easy Hacking" with a single plugin mod such as "Easy Unlocking - Easy Hacking - Guaranteed Pick Pocket" by HellFireXS, and see if that solves the problem.

Otherwise, look into the possibility an NVSE plugin (which won't show up in the "load order") might be the problem. Provide a list (to include version numbers) if necessary. If you have an old "script extender" plugin version, it might have a bug that has since been fixed.

The thing is I don't wan't guaranteed pickpocket, I use easy hacking and unlocking since I feel these minigames detracts me from the game. I can't remember there being a single file with just easy hacking + lockpicking (could be wrong). I have tried to disable both of them, but that doesn't change anything. Also if it's a script causing it, I doubt they would be involved as they do not affect doors.

The plugins I have installed:

ui_organizer.dll

sr_New_Vegas_Stutter_Remover.dll

pn_nvse.dll

OneTweak.dll

nvac.dll

MCM.dll

Oh and also I did not notice this the first time I left doc mitchells house OR the first time I entered goodsprings saloon, but it has been persistent ever since.

I'd say it's most likely a problem with CASM & save file , sounds like it is initiating a quick load for some odd reason (which may also indicate a key mapping issue ) ... but just for elimination purposes , start with verifying files with steam , then start messing with the various save settings for CASM (not real familiar with that myself)

Then move to re-installing CASM. However , your save progression may just be beyond fixing.

So in that case ... And to avoid further problems of this continueing ... you may just need to reinstall the game and start over. Where is your game installed by the way ?

My game is installed on my HDD (G:), steam itself however is installed my SSD (C:).

Hmmm thats odd ... I didn't know you could install Fallout NV outside of "Steam" But a quick look of mine , although I may be missing something. I don't appear to have a "Steam" folder myself.

My NV install location looks like this ... C/:Games/Bethesda SoftWorks/Fallout NV/Steam apps/Common/Fallout New Vegas

And I'm pretty sure I created everything up too "Fallout NV"

But with them separated like that ... and what is your OS ? May be creating this save / quick load problem ? If that is infact what is going on.

Add edit: And one more quick question ... do you have a touch screen ?

Well you certainly can install New Vegas outside of steam, don't know if it causes any issues though. My OS is Windows 10. And no I do not have a touch-screen just a simple 1080p monitor.

EDIT: Here is my exact game location if it matters: "G:\_GAMES_\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas".

Well that is the same inside of steam I have then.

So did you verify files with steam ?
