Help with lighting problem

So I have these 2 Graphic mods, Darker Knights and Decay ReShade (using Darkay though) and I get this light problem:

It's not gamebreaking but it is somewhat annoying when you want to see if the item you put in your companion fits, but it's too dark and you have to turn on your flashlight (on daytime). Pretty much annoying in general

It's like they're all wearing black. Everything is basically dark when you're not facing the sun

Maybe someone could help me on a tweak, mod or other presets, maybe even ENB (but I gate framedrops on ENB though) too fix this, would be much appreciated.

I also have PhotoLight (dark) mod on this screenshot.

Thanks :D

Sorry also if I posted on the wrong section of the forums. This didn't look like a problem to be posted on Technical Support forums

This is a fundamental problem with game's original ambient occlusion feature (game uses HBAO+ I think) without options for us to adjust. This can be remiedied by using ENB settings. Best if you get the latest version from ENB website. Version .311 I think.

Your problem: there is not enough bounce light. In reality, light bounces everywhere, so we can tell it is day time without looking at direct sun light.

What you can do with the game:

- Turn off Ambient Occlusion in game

- Turn on Ambient Occlusion in ENB instead. Same effect, adjustable, and more performance friendly.

- No need to have 2 features running side by side doing the same thing, just waste your performance.

- Download newest ENB for more features

With ENB menu (hit Shift-Enter to bring up);
- Make sure "EnableSSAO" is checked in EFFECT section.
- You can adjust values in SSAO_SSIL section but write down original values as backup

- SSIL is the part that iluminates reflective lights onto objects. Just make sure ILAmount is not zero (I use 3)

Outside of SSAO, but also ENB:
- Under ENVIROMENT , adjust AmbientLightingIntensityDay (default is 1) to go to 1.1 or 1.2 or higher (small increments only, or it will look weird)

- Changes other part for Dawn, Sunrise, Night, etc... Observe the changes
- Under ENBEFFECT.FX (this is color correction)... change "CC:Out black" (default at zero) to 0.10. Adjust around until satisfaction. This raises JUST the dark shadow part a little for more details.

This guarantees to fix your problem. I can talk about Reshade too if you want. But ENB and Reshade differs in aspect that ENB is the image processor, Reshade is only the post process. Reshade can raise shadow, but will not bring back lost details. So some cases this method can look patchy and very ugly.

Extra note:
Tone down or turn off Character light, it looks so ugly at full power. ENB allows you to turn off under FIX. But CL also helps with image quality. I use mine at values as low as 0.0001. Yes it is there, it helps at night where light is weaker (from light bulbs). Use cl fill 0.0001 and cl rim 0.0001 in console command. You have to do this everytime you start the game. Feel free to adjust the numbers around to your liking. Depending on your ENB setting, you may go up a lot higher to see effect. And RIM light is backlight while FILL is fill light. These 2 numbers do not have to be identical.

  • 1 year later...

I found this extremely helpful, thanks very much, Tomomi1922. I was having same issue and was kind of onto the right track, but got to what I was looking for with the help of this streamlining explanation here.

It is always worth posting helpful stuff like this, because people do searches online and without helpful comments posted, like this one, they won't come up in any search. It's pretty difficult to find what is needed, especially with most of the advice outdated, referring to much older versions of things.

But anyway, thanks. This helped me when I did a search in Google. It brought me here, (eventually).

EDIT: Oh, I'd like to add, I couldn't find "out black" in colour correction or anywhere in the ENB menu. I know that would really help me, but don't seem to have it or it's a new name now, still, I used brightness plus what was detailed above and it's well, much better, I can tweak a little to help it during the different times of day and save accordingly.
