ericjmz
5/235 Hi Folks, Here's a tech support generic question....as pertains to NMM & Mods in general...I am guessing to ask here, but if wrong forum, please inform & I will repost correctly. So...I plan to start from scratch...partially because of heavily modded & the slow accretion of detritus in a heavily modded SSE......but mostly I've gotten waaaay too much power, & want the thrill of being killed by a lightning bug if I'm not careful So want to start SSE at the beginningBut in prep for that, my questions are: 1. Deactivate all mods via NMM first..?2. deactivate & also UNINSTALL/DELETE all mods from NMM first...?3. After your advice on the above, uninstall SSE via Steam...then restart my computer and RE-install SSE again4. Then reinstall some MODs, but not go crazy with such...(not that it matters, but I plan to install only about 1/4 of my mods (which I have archived, no big deal for me to reinstall mods), install a handful of new ones never tried , and NOT install a ton I did before) LASTLY, EVEN IF ALL THE ABOVE IS OVERKILL, IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH TAKING THE ABOVE APPROACHJ,BECAUSE I REALLY DON'T MIND THE TIME IT TAKES TO DO SO...I CAN FINISH MY Agatha Christie BOOK ('...aND THEN there WERE nONE' WITH A CUP OF COFFEE WHILE I DO SO... THANK YOU IN ADVANCE...ESP. IF YOU SHOW ME THERE IS A PROBELM WITH THIS APROACH, OR A 'BETTER WAY') ericjmz (apologize accidental CAPS lock)
iXenite
While this guide was written for the original Skyrim, I see no reason why it cannot be used for the Special Edition. This guide will help you make your Skyrim installation completely Vanilla again. ericjmz
I thank you...but I read it, & it leaves me with a question... Although it DOES confirm uninstalling all mods first (logical guess on my part), I cannot see the advantage of doing all 3 dozen steps of piecemeal deletes after that Is that 'better'/'cleaner' than just simply using Steam for uninstalling Skyrim...& reinstalling it? Because to me, that seems so much easier? curious..? :) thanks eric
iXenite
I believe the point of the steps is primarily to ensure there is nothing leftover in your game files. Though I suppose it's also to avoid needing to reinstall everything.

Moksha8088
When you start a new game your saves will be smaller and your loading swifter. If that is what you were referring to as the slow accretion of detritus, then starting a new game will do the trick without uninstalling all your mods. If there are mods you do not want or if there are new mods you want to try, take care of all of that before the start and then run LOOT.
