Alaisiagae
Hi everybody!I have a question. How do i install mods on my game? pls helpI suggest using Oblivion Mod Manager. I'll explain how I use it.I made the following folders: My Documents\Oblivion mods\7z mods, RAR mods, Unpacked mods, Zip mods EXAMPLE 1:- I download Mod1.7z, and so I save it in My Documents\Oblivion mods\7z mods.- I open up the archive and see taht Mod1.7z contains ReadMe_Mod1.txt and Mod1.esp.- I open up OBMM and click on the button "Create"- I click "Add archives" in the omod creator panel. I navigate to Mod1.7z and click "Add."- I type in a mod name, prefixed with something to help me decide load order (Major -, Minor -, Content -, Patch -, Environ -, Sound -). Let's say that Mod1 adds a spell. I'd name the omod "Minor - Spell" where "Spell" is probably something a bit more descriptive. I make sure to put in the mod author's name, too, in case I need to find the mod on the web again.-Click "Create." You will now see the omod name "Minor - Spell" and next to it a green box. Click once on "Minor - Spell" and then click the "Activate" button located next to the "Create" button. Now the box turns blue, and you will see Mod1.esp appear in the left-hand column, under Oblivion.esm (assuming you have no other mods or DLC installed. If you do, then the Mod1.esp will appear below all .esps that are not associated with an omod).-Ta-da! OBMM has placed Mod1.esp into your Oblivion\Data folder. Go ahead, lauch Windows Explorer and navigate to your Oblivion\Data folder. Deactivate the mod in OBMM and refresh the WE window. Mod1.esp is no longer in the Data directory. You want to make sure that the folder structure in the mod's archive matches the standard structure of Oblivion\Data folders. For instance, say you have a mod that replaces the color of the monk's robe with polka-dots. EXAMPLE 2:- My Documents\Oblivion mods\RAR mods\Mod2.rar contains:Polkadot.txtPolkadot.espclothing\PolkadotMod\Polkadot.dds- If you make this into an omod and activate it, OBMM will place the data into your Oblivion\Data like thus:Oblivion\Data\Polkadot.espOblivion\Data\clothing\PolkadotMod\Polkadot.dds-The readme might or might not say that to install the mod, you need to put clothing\PolkadotMod\Polkadot.dds into the Oblivion\Data\Textures folder. Perhaps it only says that in the desciption for the mod on the website, or maybe the mod author forgot. In any case, you can be fairly sure that, to work, the clothing folder will need to go in the Textures folder. So, you'll need to:-Extract Mod2.rar. I usually go up a view in the 7z wizard and click on the archive "Mod2.rar." That extracts the contents of Mod2.rar and puts it in a folder with the same name as the archive -- in this case "Mod2." I cut and paste this folder into My Documents\Oblivion mods\Unpacked mods. - Now, open Mod2 folder and create a new folder. Name it "textures" (with or without a capital "t"). Click on the folder "clothing" and put it inside the "textures" folder. Tada, you have now created the right folder structure. -Now, tell OBMM to create an omod, and click "Add folders." Navigate to My Documents\Oblivion mods\Unpacked Mods\Mod2 and click "Add."- Name your mod (and maybe type in the mod author's name for posterity) and you're all set. After activating/deactivating/changin load order in OBMM, you want to make sure to close OBMM before launching Oblivion. I usually fire up the Oblivion launcher and click "Data Files." Don't worry if it doesn't have the same load order as OBMM - the OBMM load order will work, regardless of whatever order of presentation the Data Files shows you. I just do all this as a precaution because I use OBSE, and I want to make sure Oblivion realizes that mods were added (I'm using a non-32-bit Windows OS, so I've had some wierd trouble with OBSE). I hope this helps! This is just how and where I save and install mods. You can set up whatever organization system you prefer, I don't think there is a "right" or "wrong" way to do it. And no, I'm not exactly sure why the pronoun in this impromptu guide changed from "I" to "you."
bben46
If you are totally new to mods I have written a set of short instructions that cover downloading, unziping, installing and getting the mods to work in game. I have tried to write these in plain English and leave out as much computer and gamer jargon as I can They are located here: http://thewormhole.nfshost.com/forum/index...opic,296.0.html Just click on the highlighted text to be taken to the site. You may be asked to register. Its FREE. The registering is just to keep out the barbarians. Please PM me with any suggestions as to how I can improve the tutorials. Sarya
The best way is: download a mod, read a readme, find the install part, do as it says. Almost every good modder adds a description enough to install properly.

bben46
Better than a top 10 list. A top 100 list - Here: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/top.php
jojo man
Before you go overboard though, I'de recommend an ounce of caution. The top 100 are popular and stable, but you should still only install one or two or five(depending on the size of the mods and how radically they change the game) at a time. After installing them, play the game with them active for a little while in order to ensure there are no conflicts. If you do find conflicts, it will make your life alot easier to be able to automatically narrow it down to a mere handful of mods, as the potential trouble makers. Hope this helps.
