lukedavie590
Hi there. So i was ab out 100 hours in to my first playthrough with mods and everything was going retty smoothly. I got a little weary of the uptick in denirim crashes and diceded to install the 4gb fix recomended in the IA description. However once I did the update the game will no longer even turn on (error 51). Any ideas what I did wrong? And is there any way to undo the 4gb update completely or am I screwed? Im playing on the steam bought ultimate edition. I'm not extremely computer savvy so some pretty basic step by step suggestions would be nice if you have a fix. Thanks! olnorton
And is there any way to undo the 4gb update completely or am I screwed? According to that page the mod links to, the patch program automatically makes a backup of the .exe. Have you got a daorigins.exe.Backup in the bin_ship folder? If so, just rename it to daorigins.exe Edited May 29, 2017 by olnorton
Thandal
No idea about issues with IA (I refuse to install it after the first time I lost tens-of-hours of gameplay because it trashed my saves) but I've been running with the 4GB >3GB .exe hak for years with no problems. Although the program I used to make that happen (which was written for FO3, but works fine on any Windows 32-bit application with a little editing of the .bat file. It's also available here on the Nexus!) doesn't try to make a backup... (The readme tells the user to do that first! ) Anyway, to "undo", just log-on to EA/Origin and choose "Repair" for DAO.
speedynl
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=233222451 the exe there works like a charm for steam version, don't know wat he exatly did with the file but it have laa enablethe exe is smaller then the original so he prolly changed more then only enable 4 gb if you check the version of the file you will see its exact the same as the 1 tat is installed when with steam i have try it myself with the f03 enable and true cff explorer but it always return the 51 code even in offline mode Edited May 30, 2017 by speedynl
Thandal
[Providing updated info since it'd been so long since I used the program myself. Just tested to confirm the following:] 1. The "Large Address Aware Enabler for FO3" program linked above works perfectly (after making the appropriate changes in the .bat file) for "daorigins.exe", and I've had no problem running the game after running the hak. (NOTE: I use EA/Origin, not Steam.) 2. It's not the ReadMe that tells the player to make a backup copy of the original file before making any changes. That message is displayed within the program itself. 3. The program also offers an "undo" option in the form of a "®remove" parameter during operation. All-in-all, I think it's the best tool for this particular task and I highly recommend it.
