Aethemera
Hello, I am really curious as to how I ended up with corrupt nif files. As shown in the screenshot, these files appear to be from a mod called Colorful Magic. But I have used it for a few years and I never received any problem until now. But what is even stranger is that this error only happens when I have equipment or it displays equipment (as I open the container that has them) from a side quest in the mod The Wheels of Lull. Using other equipment from that mod works out perfectly fine. What is even more strange is that it only happens after I installed the mod Moon and Star, and I don't recall it asking to overwrite any of my files. I have already verified game cache in Steam, and removed references and records from the main game and DLCs using TES5Edit. However, this error still occurs. As I have read, nifhealer does not work because it is a textures issue. What can I do to resolve this? Alternatively, would reinstalling Colorful Magic or starting an entire new game solve this issue? P.S.: I have started using WyreBash for the first time and I created a bashed patch with nothing in it because I cancelled it. However, it still ends up displaying in NMM. I did not activate the batched patch however. Edited June 1, 2017 by Aethemera
AHSpire
I apologize in advance for necro'ing this thread, however the issue is still unresolved for many and I'm hoping to attract some knowledgeable folks to brainstorm. I don't have an answer to this either unfortunately. Since the release of Skyrim I've never encountered this error until this year, and programs like NifHealer only work *sometimes* and aren't a cure-all. I'm not sure why my game is suddenly corrupting these nifs, or what's causing the corruption at all, and it doesn't help that there are very few threads covering this issue to begin with. What's even worse is that every thread on corrupted nifs is vastly different, with different mods getting corrupted and extremely different modlists/loadorders, and few good theories on why the corruption happens at all. Some say that a save where mods are constantly changing will have problems no matter what you do, and even tools like Save Cleaner can't help a save that's far gone, which can lead to these corrupted nifs. Others point to script conflicts and bad downloads/extraction. Yet again, like you I have never run into this problem until this year, I micromanage every file and every mod I've used I know has never caused this to happen nor has my heavily-modded games ever seen this error. All I know is that when running Warzones I have always had issues no matter the setup in the last 4-5 years, and for the most part it's only given me random CTD's (Yes I've followed every guide in existence to get WZ to play nicer however nothing ever worked across 5 different pc's), but now I'm suspecting that it may now be causing (or helping to cause) the corrupted nifs for my Skyrim. I don't know why, it's just a feeling. For my game there's a good 50/50 chance that a WZ encounter throws up this error, with different corrupted nifs each time, something that doesn't happen with regular encounters that come with the base game. I'm going to remove it soon, then start a new save, and will report back if it works. If anyone has any suggestions, then please post. I would be glad for any advice, anything at all. As for you Aethemera, I don't use NMM but I'd wager that you'll just have to manually delete the folder/file in NMM's mod directory. Though, you've probably figured this out by now, haha. It's been years since I used WyreBash for anything, as I've switched to MergedPlugins instead, but that empty bashed patch won't have any effect on your Skyrim for sure. Update: Thanks Peter for the reply! Turns out that removing WZ: Assault Attack solved this problem for me, no idea why though. Would love to know why exactly it corrupted my nifs. Also I had used Nif Healer, NIf scan and the rest however I had little success with them in the past. Though if anyone is still having issues I do recommend going through PeterMartyr's list first and using these programs, if that doesn't work then here are some other forum links with possible solutions: Link 1, Link 2, Link 3, Link 4, Link 5, Link 6.
