mizder
Hello guys, I'm trying to get through the dark brotherhood questline, I have barely started at the moment, so I have been to the hut, killed one of the people, got the password from Astrid. Now, when I talk to the door, I tell him "Silence my brother", He lets me in. After the loading screen, I am in thin air, and just fall through the ground, come back up, fall etc. etc. There is no wall or ground textures to be seen. I can tcl and float around but still nothing loads, just empty space with a few floating candles and what not. Any help would be very appreciated, thanks in advance. Kirye
Do you have any mods that might be messing with the dark brotherhood sanctuary? If not, you could also try reinstalling the game to see if that fixes anything.
mizder
I have removed all mods completely, but havent tried a fresh install, i'll get onto it. Also, the same thing happened just before when i went to Alftand for the main questline, fell into nothingness, had to tcl towards the map marker for the door, for every zone up until blackreach. :/

Brandy1123
Mods do strange things to your games sometimes. When the Modder just writes a bad add on, or overwrites and existing modded area, it can have devestating (CTD) effects. Just removing or uninstalling a mod does not mean its gone. a lot of times, the mod overwrites needed software/ skins/ meshes/ game perameters and it does not repair these when you remove it. So, in effect, the mod does not have to launch to cause the trouble or havoc it created on its install. Unless you have a copy of your pre-modded (at least the problem mod) data folder, You would be better off uninstalling your game, rebooting your system and spend the next 6-8 hours letting STEAMypile have your system while it downloads their game and their garbage back onto your pc. There is no fast way to troubleshoot a CTD with mod caused issues. Always making data back-ups is the best and only sure fire way to fix a bad mod. BTW, also back-up your INI files. Its hard to make those on the fly if they get corrupted. Edited April 7, 2012 by Brandy_123

Visious
I keep different versions of skyrim folder, just for such cases. I just renamed reserve clean ( without mods ) folder to main, launch last save I had, DB sanctuary loaded just fine. After that I changed all back - launched heavily modded version - DB sanctuary loaded exactly the same - without problems 0_0 Maybe some sort of cash is involved, its the only explanation, that comes to mind. Well, everyone, who has such problem - dont delete your modded game, save it somewhere else and install or launch clean skyrim, lauch last save, check if DB sanctuary works correctly, then return modded game back, load the same save - you should have positive result.Write here if it helped. Sorry Visious, I seem to have found a "proper" solution;-) I used to have the same problem in quite a couple of dungeons, Nightcaller Temple being the worst (even restarting the game didn't help). Well, I reflected a lot about what could possibly cause this problem and came to the conclusion that perhaps memory seemed to have ran out preventing meshes and textures to get loaded in time. So, to cut it short, I disabled all housing mods one-by-one and tested if it was working each time with Nightcaller Temple. When I deactivated "Dragon Falls Manor" all of a sudden everything went pretty fine and I could for the first time enter NCT. After that I reactivated all mods that I've disabled so far and guess what, it's still working! In the description of Dragon Falls Manor I also found a hint that the large amount of clutter outside the manor could potentially cause CTDs and this seems also to be the reason for the missing meshes. Too much clutter in the RAM, too little space for dungeons when they load. I hope this works for you, too. If you don't have DFM installed then deactivating RAM-extensive mods seems a good solution either. Try it and report on your success, please ;-)
