nickd97
Hello Fallout modding community!I am in need of help from one more skilled than I in converting a mesh and its texture to a format usable in Fallout 4.I did try to make the conversion on my own, but I can't make heads or tails of the tutorials I have come across.I would rather leave it in the capable hands of someone who has done this before. The model in question is a full-body piece of armor, and I will be using it as such in-game.I only have the .nif and .dds files in their Skyrim format. Hope to hear from someone soon. Thank you for your time!
MightyZ0G
you can't directly convert assets from Skyrim to Fallout 4 as it is against the terms of Skyrim and Fallout4, you would need to create new meshes and textures from scratch.
nickd97
Sorry, I should have clarified further. The model itself is NOT a Bethesda asset. It is third party.
MightyZ0G
you would need permission from the original creator then.
nickd97
Even for just a private mod? I make personal tweaks to mods all the time to suit my liking, but I don't republish them. Is this much different? Edited June 15, 2017 by nickd97
MightyZ0G
you can pretty much do what you like privately. there should be tutorials showing how to convert skyrim assets into an editable form and there should be tutorials on how to rig that onto a fallout skeleton. ask the original creator and you might get permission to release the mod as a conversion/port. they might even give you advice and help with it. Damnators
you haven't been any help at all. the guy obviously dont want to publish, he clearly wants help in converting the assets and that's it.. no need to pressure him about bethesda codes of ethics that no one cares about, nor about author permission since he's not even publishing nor did he say he is...anyway, did you check this tutorial out? http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/21111/? MightyZ0G
sorry, I didn't know about that tutorial. it looks perfect for this situation. as for going on about bethesda's code of ethics, I was also thinking about the Nexus rules.if someone did port and upload a mod like this without permission it would be a ban from here making requests for help difficult. I mentioned contacting the original creator because there is nothing to lose from asking. if the creator says no then you can still make the mod for personal use, but if they say yes you can upload it and give something back to the community. nickd97
I had seen that tutorial, yes, but it involves using CBBE which I REALLY don't want to have to use. I attempted to follow the instructions there but they don't quite fall in line with how the model I'm trying to convert works. Frankly I got sick of trying to make it work on my own, and came here to see if someone would be able to help me where I failed. For what its worth, the author of the original model hasn't been on steam in 192 days, so it says. The mod's page itself is very clear about not PUBLISHING the mod to other forums, but I only want help converting one of the models in there to be visible and playable in FO4 for my own use. I do not plan on posting it anywhere. I know its only my word on that promise, but its all I can give. Here is the mod's page.http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=197549037 The model I'm trying to work with is the Battledroid armor. It covers and hides the entire player body, which is probably causing some of the problems I ran into while trying to convert it myself. MightyZ0G
try this video tutorial. he doesn't use CBBE or Bodyslide or Outfit Studio, all you should need are nifskope and FO4Edit.
