Bogus Uploads

This original purpose of this topic is about people starting the upload process and not attaching a file for a specified amount of time.

Always give the uploader 24 to 48 hours before you start complaining. They might only have access to the internet at one point in the day and "initiate" and upload and walk away...not being able to check until the next day (for example).

But, once it becomes apparent that the member will not attach a file, the page needs to be removed. That is where you members can come in handy. You can notify us about these kinds of problems in 3 ways.

Report Method #1 - Use the "Report File" button on the mod page. NOTE: This method might take a bit longer before it is handled because it requires that we (moderators) actively pull the report to see if anything was reported.

Report Method #2 - Click the "Comments" tab, then click the "Report this Comment" for the very first post made which is usually the Plugin Manager. NOTE: This method allows us (moderators) to see the reports instantly when we are on the site. ;)

Report Method #3 - Click the "Comments" tab, then the "Go To Forum Thread" and then click the Report button on the 1st post. NOTE: This does the same thing as the above method but another way to access in case you are already on the forums.

bben46, the forum feedback is not necessarily the best place to put this kind of info as I for one do not frequent that area very often. That area is more for communication to the site creator, Dark0ne.

Alaisiagae, I think you misunderstood the point of the OP but in reply to your concern, the site records EVERY kind of change to a mod page. And just like Buddah pointed out, even user-submitted images will cause a mod to get back on the "updates today/recently" radar. But one thing you should keep in mind is that Dark0ne provided a VERY handy little update key that lets you know what was done such as updates to the description, images, file mirrors and attached files. This allows you to easily scan the list for mods that contain file updates and the "Action Log" tab on the mod gives more detailed information about the update such as the addition or removal of a file...including the filename in case there are multiple files.

The other issue as to why you keep seeing multiple updates is simply due to the vast amount of information a modder has to update....spelling errors, grammar mistakes, updated fixes, updated compatibility issues, frequently asked questions, licensing changes, future/history notes, to-do lists, known/found bugs, etc., etc., etc....and let's not forget that there is not yet a "preview" button for descriptions. ;)

So basically, I do not think the modder should concern themselves with trying to keep their mod from showing up on an "updated recently" list and rather focus on what needs to be done. Downloaders need to learn how to best utilize the data available to them.

As for people uploading adult-only images on mod pages that are not Adult-Only, well....I simply delete them as fast as I can. It's plain rude to do such a thing and that is why I disallow users from attaching images to the mods I upload.

Thanks for setting me strait Lhammonds. I come on 10:00 everynight just to see what i can add to oblivion to make it seem like he endless RPG i wish it was. first thing i do is look at Latest files and i do notice that. If i see that after 48 hours i'll just report the file. Although if it sounds/looks good i hope the author will reupload it.

After re-reading, I'd like to clarify the following statement I made:

"Always give the uploader 24 to 48 hours before you start complaining."

This may sounds like common sense to some but I think it warrants being said.

If you think this will be a bogus upload (especially based on past performance or suspicious comments by the author), feel free to go ahead and use the report tool. Just be aware that we are likely to sit on it for a few days. It doesn't hurt to have the reports sitting on our to-do list. I've reported a few myself where I was guessing that it wouldn't ever materialize simply because I would forget later to check unless it was in the report queue. ;)

The main idea about this particular statement is to not harass the uploader for not uploading a file. And you really shouldn't even bother them after the 48 hour mark by leaving comments either. This is the job of a moderator so use the report tool and let the moderators handle it. It's a different scenario though if you are trying to help them figure out how the upload process works or how to attach a file to a page they already created. Being helpful is always a plus. Comments like "when are you ever going to upload the file" are basically just SPAM and trolling.

einhander888, these comments were not directly aimed at you but I'm glad you are straight now rather than being curved and bent. ;)

Thanks LHammonds, your info is helpful of which I didn't know the process. Mostly I have seen many bogus loads that I suspected were, because afterwards (like you said waiting a period of time) they did turn out to be bogus. I tend to watch for those who have 0 contents and don't bother to examine them unless I am familiar with the author or see their obvious forum status.

I've tried to only 'update' my mods if there's really something to update. House mods don't get downloaded a lot (they're too easy to make), so I don't get the hight D/L numbers anyway, but so what?

It's there for the folks who want to use it, or for someone to use as a base for a new mod. All I ask is if you use my ideas in your mod, give me a mention in your readme. :)
