A Look: Anime v. Not Anime

I've never managed to become a fan of the Anime look. I can explain why, but then I might offend some folks. I do, however, like other Japanese or generally East Asian character mods. Unfortunately they're rather few and far between when compared to those derived from the Anime style. One look that I do like is that of the character mod "Reiko Senjua". While influenced by Anime styling she does have a somewhat uniquely Japanese look that I find attractive. Another that I like is the character mod "Yumi Mitsushigi". As usual, of course, they're not worn or beat up enough for me to be entirely happy with them. Also not mature enough, but that's a whole other topic. The look that I'd really like to see on East Asian female mods is that to be found on Mongolian or even some of the Ainu women who spend a lot of time outdoors in the rather harsh climates of Northern Japan or Mongolia. "Sigh." Unfortunately the default female mod is usually flawless and cute...insufferably so.

Thanks for sharing your opinion about Japanese characters with us.

And where's the relatedness to Skyrim?

Dey ain't one, since Skyrim's not set in medieval Japan...unless you accept the Akaviri as lending a distinctly Japanese look to armor, weapons, and architecture. Thinking that connection to be somewhat unavoidable, then it follows there are a large number of character mods that draw from Japanese culture, physiology, art and cartooning(Anime). I, personally, am not a fan of character mods derived from an Anime base. I can explain why, but I'm not going to do that. It would likely be offensive as my view of Anime style characters is not subtle. I do like traditional Japanese art, and I like character mods that are influenced by that art form. To give you an idea of what I"m talking about, please do a search for the portrait of the famous Japanese Ronin, Sukeroku and his mistress, who just happened to be a Geisha who fled her House and became renegade. It's a typically tragic Japanese tale, somewhat similar in outcome to many Scandinavian tales. One of the newer racial mods that I frequently run as a character base is that of the Asaia(sp?). It feels much more comfortable when running Akaviri style play. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of Japanese based mods that derive from traditional Japanese culture. It just gives me an excuse to role play a Samurai character with all that goes with it. We're still forced to follow the basic Skyrim plot.

Then why do you post this in the "SKYRIM Mod Talk" section of this forum?

Ah, selective quotation, a time honored political tactic. Lol!

The rest of your post doesn't make much more sense either. Lol!

It does if you paid attention to the Akaviri reference. Of course, it may be that you aren't up on the Akaviri as they were presented in the earlier iterations of TES. If not, I suggest that you do a bit of homework as regards Japanese armor, weapons and architecture in the medieval era. Then I suggest that you compare that to the Akaviri as presented in the Skyrim predecessors. Lastly, I suggest that you research the rather large number of mods present on the Skyrim Nexus that are apparently inspired by medieval Japanese culture. Those mods are frequently found under the Akaviri heading as well, although they are also cross referenced under Samurai, Japan, Asian, East Asian, Korean, Chinese, Ninja, Japanese, and so on. Is it, or is it not, valid to discuss all those Asian derived mods on Skyrim Nexus?
